On The Table Read Magazine, “the best entertainment magazine in the UK“, Canadian indie, dream pop artist Mikalyn released an ethereal and iridescent new song, Prisoner about being in a relationship where you feel trapped.

Mikalyn

Born and bred in Ontario, Canadian indie, dream pop artist Mikalyn writes storytelling lyrics which touch on relatable themes from relationships and love (or lack thereof), to everyday experiences and emotions. Mikalyn’s sound is a vibrant and colourful blend of infectious pop melodies, soaring vocals and polished production.

Her ascent in the music business has been, in some respects, an atypical journey thus far. She originally gained an unconventional foothold after a Brazilian record label discovered her original, piano-driven music on Soundcloud and offered to transform them into EDM hits. What followed were monster collaborations with the likes of Zuffo, Diskover, Ownboss, and Evokings.

With millions of streams for her music to date, Mikalyn has had her songs placed on numerous Spotify editorial playlists, including Canada’s New Music Friday, Indie Pop, Fresh Finds and EQUAL. She has also received airplay on CBC radio, as well as reaching the finals in their searchlight competition multiple years in a row.

Mikalyn

With a one-of-a-kind style and unwavering drive, Mikalyn shows no signs of slowing down on her already impressive trajectory as she launches her indie pop career.

Prisoner

In her new single, Prisoner, Mikalyn narrates the experience of being in a relationship where you feel trapped.

You know it’s not right for you, you know it’s toxic, but both you and the other person can’t seem to ever really leave for good. It touches on bad habits in relationships, and how sometimes staying with someone that is wrong for you is like putting a bandaid on a bullet hole. You might feel better or less lonely when you’re with them, but it’s a temporary fix before you’re reminded that they’re not helping you grow in any way.

-Mikalyn

With an ethereal quality, Prisoner shines brightly as Mikalyn’s vocals glide atop iridescent synths, a moody bassline and all-encompassing atmosphere, providing a sense of escapism for the listener.
