The Firework Files

The Firework Files by Cee Cee Evans

A dark and thrilling adventure that plunges readers into a world of sexual intrigue, shocking violence, and constant danger, The Firework Files is a pulse-pounding story where long-buried secrets resurface to haunt those who thought they had escaped their past.

Cee Cee Evans masterfully weaves a tapestry of revenge, betrayal, and the lengths people will go to protect their darkest truths, all against the backdrop of the 1980s and 90s. While this is only her second novel (following the 2022 release of No Exaggeration), Evans demonstrates a remarkable ability to captivate, unsettle, and entertain.

The story unfolds on New Year’s Eve 1999, at the lavish estate of Micky “Thunder,” a debauched rock star. Among the throng of revelers are four former university friends, bound by a shared history of sadistic sexual games played within their secret “Chess Club.” These games, involving the manipulation and torture of innocent “pawns,” left a trail of destruction in their wake.

When Thunder is tragically killed by an apparent firework accident, the shockwaves reverberate through the lives of his guests. They soon discover that the “accident” was no accident at all, but a deliberate act of murder. Haunted by past misdeeds and the suspicion that Thunder was responsible for their individual misfortunes, they find themselves ensnared in a deadly game of revenge. The question now: who among them is the architect of this chilling retribution?
