With a mission to bring joy and companionship to the town’s older residents, she founded a vibrant social club.

More than just an entertaining read, this book sheds light on a pressing issue affecting over 1.4 million older citizens in the UK today, inspiring readers to build stronger, more inclusive communities.
Several years ago, I formed a senior social group with the aim of tackling loneliness amongst the older generation, by way of introducing a variety of fun activities. I am passionate in my quest to tackle loneliness, particularly amongst people in this age bracket and feel strongly that there should a wider range of fun activities available to them. The group gave me the inspiration and material for this book. It catalogues the antics and adventures of these lovely people who came together, determined to enjoy life, often with hilarious consequences.
I believe it would appeal to most of the older generation and hopefully bring inspiration to those struggling with retirement and loneliness. It would also, make a wonderful comedy series, that is something that I would love to happen but dare to dream about.
-Jan Howley
Born and raised in Liverpool, Jan Howley’s journey to Nuneaton began in 1991 when she relocated for work. Far from her roots, she experienced firsthand the challenges of loneliness, particularly among the older population. Driven by a desire to create a sense of belonging and connection, Jan founded a senior social group.
This personal experience became the catalyst for her first book, a heartfelt exploration of loneliness and the power of community. Through her writing, Jan aims to inspire others to bridge the gap between generations and foster a more inclusive society.
