On The Table Read, “the best arts magazine in the UK“, discover the Strange Tale of the Shakespeare Detectives as Imaginarium Theatre takeover the Shakespeare North Playhouse.
For the second full length play in the opening season of the Cockpit Stage at Shakespeare North Playhouse, Imaginarium Theatre is thrilled to be staging STRANGE TALE from the 2nd to the 5th of November.
Will Shakespeare is in Prescot, but who knows why or how.
His Tudor days seem far away from the here and now.
He needs the help of locals, as time is running out –
His memory is fading, his writing future is in doubt!
Who are the Shakespeare detectives, and how can they help? How does a mysterious portal in the barber shop where the Prescot Playhouse once stood, provide a clue to getting Will home? Who is Lord Strange, and why is he so extraordinarily strange?
And why does Will spend so much time at the pub?
Join the Bard at the bar for an unforgettable night of music, mystery, and mayhem.
Created through a series of devising workshops over the last year with writer Rob Brannen and director Gaynor La Rocca, this zany and fabulously funny new play draws on factual historical research, with lashings of artistic license, to bring an exciting new mythos of Prescot and its historic connection to the Bard.
The multi-award winning Imaginarium Ensemble, including 22 local community actors (with ages ranging from 16 – 86 years), are staging an exciting town takeover of the new playhouse. Rehearsals are currently in full swing at Imaginarium’s new town centre Arts Hub and momentum is building throughout the town.
“Prescot has been dreaming of the Shakespeare North Playhouse for years now, I wanted to ensure that when it opened the town knew it belonged to local people; that the space would be filled with their voices, their feet would tread those boards, and we would tell their stories. It’s been such a privilege to work with Rob and the Imaginarium Ensemble to create a brand-new production for the playhouse’s opening season, and I cannot wait for the town to see 22 local people on that glorious stage telling the strangest tale Prescot has heard in a long time!”
Gaynor La Rocca, Artistic Director/CEO
