On The Table Read, “the best entertainment magazine in the UK“, Brynja has released her debut album Repeat, which has already had a song featured on the hit Netflix show, Katla.
The new thirteen-track album from Brynja, Repeat, is chock-full of diverse sounds and topics. Her soothing, euphonious singing and her melodic rapping style has been compared to Lauryn Hill, and Repeat encapsulates the genres she is most influenced by to a tee, including Alternative, Hip-Hop/Rap, Indie, Pop, R&B/Soul, etc.
Having worked on Repeat for four years, Brynja has created an album that immaculate from the beginning to the end.
Other than Be Alright, which was co-written with Alexander Spoor, and My Oh My, which was co-written with Merle Verseef, the album was written by Brynja herself, and her songwriting skills are clear. The first song on the Repeat album, Fight, has already achieved success after being featured on the soundtrack to the hit Netflix show, Katla.
The album dives into real life topics and was greatly inspired by the issues of global warming and climate change.
“I took the train for an hour to SAE Institute in Amsterdam every morning, and I‘d listen to podcasts.” explained Brynja. “There was this podcast that got me really hooked called, ‘Dissect,’ in which host Cole Cole Cuchna dissected iconic Rap and R&B albums. It taught me about the art of putting together an album thoughtfully. I thought people just wrote songs, and then bundled them together in an album. It had never occurred to me to think about it in the other order: first album, then songs. This podcast coupled with my obsession with global warming set me on the path to write this album thoughtfully.”
Brynja had a hand in the production of the album as well, working with producer LUVR. Tom Rosen Jacobsen co-produced Breathe and What Scares Me alongside Brynja and LUVR. Brynja and Alexander Spoor produced, Fight.
From Fight to Aftur & Aftur, Brynja takes you on a personal journey that all listeners can relate to with music even the pickiest ears will find a new favorite song or songs in. As the title of the album suggests, Repeat is meant to be listened to on repeat.
Icelandic singer-songwriter and producer, Brynja Bjarnadóttir, is known for her raw, yet polished vocals and musical talent. Brynja’s music truly resonates with people, as she aims to make her listeners feel both comforted by her music and understood in their concerns.
Apart from her music, Brynja is planning a mixed art exhibition to take place early next year, as well as a second-hand merchandise line, and hosting a panel on sustainability in the music industry. The budding Icelandic sensation has two music videos in the works and is gearing up for a European tour next year. Brynja is on her way to making her name known all around the globe.
