On The Table Read Magazine, “the best book magazine in the UK“, set in Venice in 1904, Saena Tetlow’s debut novel, Dead Man’s Coin, follows Rosie Lightwing, whose life is turned upside down when she stumbles across a corpse, holding the rarest of coins.

Dead Man’s Coin

Home-schooled, sixteen year old debut author, Saena Tetlow, has released her historical page-turning murder mystery, Dead Man’s Coin, written with a maturity that far exceeds expectations. Keeping her YA readers intrigued throughout, this novel puts her alongside young and prestigious literary names who also benefitted from a homeschooled education,  such as Agatha Christie, Charles Dickens and JRR Tolkein.

Set in Venice in 1904, Rosie Lightwing’s normal life is shattered when she finds a dead body holding a rare coin. Rosie is led to her own dark family history and a shadowy figure that appears to be watching her every move as she faces threats from the police and a powerful crime lord with eyes everywhere. Sometimes, a secret will cost you your life…

Rosie Lightwing, her friends and her cantankerous grey parrot, star in the first instalment of this thrilling new mystery series.

The fact that Saena chose to set her whodunit in historical Venice demonstrates her ability to conduct thorough research and comprehend time and place, beyond the ability to create a compelling storyline.

I started it when I was 14 and I’ve now nearly finished the sequel. Dead Man’s Coin was inspired by my love for murder mysteries – like ‘Murder Most Unladylike,’ ‘A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder,’ and the ‘Taylor and Rose’ series.

I have been home educated all my life, and have had special writing lessons to improve my skills. But the hardest part is sticking to a writing schedule. Oh, and the editing. I hate editing, but it has to be done.
