I interviewed podcaster Angela Marie Christian about her life and career, and her podcast, Her Circle, why she wanted to create a virtual women’s group, and the work that goes into producing it.

Tell me a bit about who you are.

After over a decade in the Silicon Valley corporate finance world, I kept feeling this urge to launch my heart-aligned career which involved guiding and helping women to transform and upgrade their life.  In 2015 I had a near-death experience that left me and my children sick, broke, and homeless.

When Western Medicine failed us, I turned to alternative forms of healing.  This led me to studying and getting initiated into an ancient mystical school.  It felt like an ancient language that I had known all along.  From there, I started studying and attending an advanced spiritual development school, which taught me advanced meditation, healing, and energetic techniques.

After that, I started training and mentoring in shamanism and became a Certified Munay-Ki Practitioner, followed by over 2 years training with a world-renowned Astrologer.  All of this was quite different from my business background and I kept the worlds separate until I realized: I didn’t want to do that any more.  I realized I had healed myself from : PTSD due to domestic abuse, addiction, anorexia, childhood trauma, and more.

My dream since a child was to write several books, therefore, I realized I can’t wait any longer.  Then I got hit with  carpal tunnel in both hands ,forcing me to reduce my finance work.  That’s when I launched my mindfulness, manifestation, and business life coaching business and I’m so thrilled.

How and why did you start podcasting?

My shaman introduced me to a women’s group (called a sangha) and our co-leader works directly with Sadhguru who is a very well known Indian yogi.  The two leaders of our women’s group inspired me to start my podcast as I absolutely loved attending our weekly women’s group calls.  I wanted to essentially create a virtual women’s group with my podcast, which is why it’s called Her Circle. I had a podcast coach that helped me get it up and running.

What is your current podcast called, and how did you come up with the name?

It’s called Her Circle and I chose that name because I wanted it to be a virtual women’s group.

What platforms can we find Her Circle on?

It’s on all podcast platforms, but it’s most popular on Apple Itunes.

What is Her Circle about?

It’s about helping women upgrade their life in all ways, including: mindfulness, manifestation, mental fitness, women’s health, entrepreneurial tips, conscious parenting, conscious relationships and more.

Do you host Her Circle alone, or have guest hosts/partners?

I do both.  I tend to alternate having a guest and having a solo episode or sometimes I’ll do both.

Do you edit Her Circle or have someone who does it for you?

I do it all myself.

Do you script Her Circle, or just chat as you go?

I have a rough outline, but I let it flow naturally.

How has Her Circle changed or developed since you began?

Her Circle

I feel more comfortable now that I’ve been doing it for a while and now i’m thinking more about the dream guests I want to manifest, including John Gray the author who will be joining me this week.

What are you biggest challenges with Her Circle?

My biggest challenge is time.  It takes quite a bit of time to edit, so it typically takes me a big chunk of Saturday to do so.

What are your favourite podcasts to listen to?

My favorite podcasts are Goal Digger, Online Marketing Made Easy, and Dear Gabby.

How and where do you promote Her Circle?

I promote it on my website, instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Linked in…

Do you earn money from podcasting, or is it a hobby?

I don’t earn any money yet, but that’s a goal.

What’s something you never expected about podcasting? What have you learned that surprised you?

I didn’t realize I’d love it so much!! I found out that it’s something I really enjoy…all pieces of it. From researching to interviewing to editing and producing.

What is the first piece of advice you would give to anyone inspired to start podcasting?

Understand how much work you’ll be putting into it, especially the editing.  I also highly recommend “theme days.” I only record podcast interviews on Thursday & Friday afternoons, for example.  It helps me keep organized and plan my time.

And, finally, are your proud of what you’re accomplishing with your podcast? Is it worth the effort?

Yes, I’m very proud of what I’m accomplishing and for me, it’s worth the effort.  It’s a great way to build relationships and collaborations, as well.
