Hate U Is The Infectious And Delightfully Witty Break Up Anthem By Viisi

On The Table Read Magazine, “the best entertainment magazine in the UK“, genre-defying artist viisi has released Hate U about emerging from heartbreak and stepping back into your confidence.

Hate U

With rising tension built around sharp energetic rushes and dark melodic slow burns, and Viisi‘s defining vocals which refuse to fit in a box, Hate U has saccharine pop tendencies at the chorus and infectious hip-hop flow in the verses.

This single is my breakup anthem. It’s a song riddled with resentment towards a past relationship. Starting as a broken man and working my way into finding my self confidence, but keeping my light heartedness throughout by knowing that no matter how much you hate me, I love how you can always f-ck me like I’m somebody else.

Good things come in fives. After dropping his first rough cut as a fourteen year old high school freshman, Matthew Borley had no idea that just five years later he’d be touring Europe, playing packed-out shows in the South of France.

During his teenage years, his father introduced him to select verses from ‘90s hip hop pioneers, and the most controversial rapper of his time, Eminem. Matthew found himself profoundly impacted by the cutting and unapologetic style of hiphop and, while most of Em’s lyrics were PG-13 at best, his father was careful to only show his son lines that connect at a deeper level, like the classic “Stan”.

Not satisfied with only hearing bits and pieces, he did what any typical adolescent would do: he snuck out an old laptop and dove deep down the hip hop rabbit hole. Eminem led to Dr. Dre. Dr. Dre to Tupac. Tupac to Biggie. Soon enough, Matthew’s obsession provided an escape that quickly evolved and made way for him to create Viisi.

Viisi represents past, present, and future, based on the Finnish word for “five”. Pushing the boundaries of what it means to be an artist in his ‘Liiminal’ series, with powerful and raw storytelling, Viisi’s music transcends across unique and universal human experiences that have shaped him as an artist and individual.

With a lyrical honesty and unwavering dedication to his craft, he is unafraid to delve into his personal experiences such as family struggles, fallouts with loved ones, career choices, failing, self-worth and more. Writing prose with messages of life and dreams and of merit and substance, his visceral approach to the story of his evolution will surely leave fans moved and stunned.
