Grandma Magic’s Pancake School

Imagine a world where life’s trickiest moments could be tackled with the ease of flipping a pancake. In Grandma Magic’s Pancake School, the first in a delightful nine-book children’s series by prolific author Debbie Wolski, this whimsical idea comes to life.

Grandma Magic’s Pancake School by Debbie Wolski

Through a cast of charming woodland characters and a treehouse-turned-classroom, Wolski serves up a heartwarming story brimming with gentle lessons on emotional balance, kindness, and self-esteem—perfect for young readers ages 3 to 12.

At the heart of the tale is Grandma Magic’s Pancake School, a place where the only rule is to “flip the pancake right.” It’s a simple mantra with a deeper meaning, as the story’s aspiring young chefs—like Tyler T. Turtle and Twilly the Filly—discover. These lovable characters stumble, learn, and grow as they face challenges and work toward crafting the perfect batch of pancakes. Along the way, their missteps and triumphs mirror the ups and downs of childhood, offering kids a relatable and uplifting way to process their own experiences.

What makes this book extra special is its blend of storytelling and interactivity. Tucked within its pages is Grandma Magic’s very own pancake recipe, inviting readers to step into the kitchen and whip up some fun of their own. It’s a clever touch that bridges the gap between the story and real life, encouraging creativity and connection—perhaps with a parent or grandparent flipping pancakes alongside. As the kickoff to a series woven together by positive, insightful lessons, Grandma Magic’s Pancake School sets a warm and welcoming tone.

Wolski’s knack for embedding meaningful messages in a lighthearted narrative ensures that little minds come away with more than just a good story—they’ll find tools to navigate life’s challenges, one flip at a time. Whether it’s a bedtime read or a rainy-day activity, this book is a recipe for joy, learning, and maybe even a tasty breakfast. So, grab a spatula and dive in—Pancake School is officially in session!

Debbie Wolski

At 71, Debbie Wolski embodies health, happiness, and strength, having turned a 1973 diagnosis of severe scoliosis—with a 35-degree spinal rotation—into a lifelong commitment to a personal yoga practice that avoided risky surgery, which offered warnings rather than guarantees.

A Central Valley California native, she’s also a prolific artist specializing in acrylic murals and watercolors, and in 2000, she opened Modesto’s first yoga studio. Wolski dedicated 12 years to teaching yoga and Pilates at Modesto Junior College and an impressive 24 years at Modesto Community College, sharing her expertise with countless students.

Driven by a deep love for helping others, she tirelessly works to eliminate physical, mental, and emotional pain from people’s lives, striving to identify its root causes and provide meaningful solutions.

An important takeaway is not to underestimate our children or their mental capacities. They can understand and absorb more than we give them credit for. Instilling these simple tools (messages in the books) as early as possible can help propel our society into the peaceful, inclusive world we’re hoping for.

I vividly recall the children’s book from the ’50s called The Little Engine That Could. I believed it, and the positive impact I experienced helped me overcome many obstacles in life. I hope to have the same lasting effect with Grandma Magic’s messages.
