” Widsom of the ages you seek, lad? I offer but one word: treasure. At what price does this treasure come, for not all does silver and gold make? To prose the question means you’ve not found yours, for when you do, ‘tis no longer a question of the cost to keep it, “Anything”becomes your creed.”…Pirate Captain Nathanael Blackthorne
It’s 1753. Having lost hearth and heart to the Stuart Uprising, Cate MacKenzie has lived alone for some while. Wanted for war crimes, arrest an increasing threat, she purchases passage on the first ship out of England. En route to the West Indies, the ship is boarded by Captain Nathanael Blackthorne, and she is mistakenly taken hostage.
Cate is immediately plunged into Blackthorne’s blood pursuit of two people: the man who forced him into piracy and the woman who shot him, took his ship, and left him for dead. Blackthorne is a man of contradictions; he and his ship seem both cursed and blessed. Cate finds life aboard the pirate ship is not the hell expected. Cannon, musket, and blood being so familiar, she has far more in common with the pirates than believed. She finds what she’s yearned for: a place to belong.
The Captain Nathanael Blackthorne treats her with all the affection and protection of a brother, while Cate discovers a heart thought gone to stone has softened. But, again, the scars are too many and too deep for either to accept or acknowledge. Neither dare let down their guard, even though all around can see it
But then, the ghosts of old wrongs rise to haunt Nathan, and the hard-earned trust dissolves. He flies into a violent rage and orders Cate off the ship.
“One can’t be rebuked for bad choices when ther’ had been no choice to be had. Wise decisions, clever courses steered, untold reefs and hazards avoided, the stuff of legends now become the stuff of retribution and remorse. At what point did yesterday become a lifetime? After all, the past is the past…isn’t it?”…Pirate Captain Nathanael Blackthorne
Cate Mackenzie, a woman who lost everything to the Jacobite Uprising is trying to make sense of being sold by Captain Blackthorne to Captain Thomas. As Blackthorne sails off, Cate tries to come to terms with her new situation. Captain Nathanael Blackthorne has only two goals: get Cate back and claim his revenge against Lord Breston Creswick.
“Nor Gold” picks up where The Pirate Captain Chronicles of a Legend; left off: Cate Mackenzie, a woman who lost everything to the Jacobite Uprising, trying to make sense of being sold to Thomas, Captain Thomas a pirate friend or is he a foe? Once again, Fate has robbed her of both her heart and her home.
As the Captain sails off, Cate tries to come to terms with her new situation. Practicality tells her Thomas is not an altogether poor future: he’s amiable, generous, and most of all, willing… but her heart is still with Nathan.
Nathan, in the meantime, is battling his decisions and their retributions In that process, he discovers there is no outrunning his past and that there are consequences for every action.
The Caribbean Sea isn’t big enough for Nathan, Thomas, and Creswick. Paths cross… and sparks fly.
“From one’s fears springs hope that they might overcome. That hope, however, delivers one to the threshold of fear, for now they realize how much they have to lose…And so spawns hope everlasting that they shan’t. ”…Pirate Captain Nathanael Blackthorne
“Treasured Treasures” is the third volume of Captain Nathanael Blackthorne’s saga. Once again, Pirate Captain Nathanael Blackthorne discovers that Death can be an entirely temporary state. It also changes nothing: both his enemies and his past still pursue him. One might be out-run, but as to the other…?
The story is a testimony to Nathan’s lofty goal of protecting what he holds dear: his ship and—treasure of treasures—Cate Mackenzie. In the meantime, Cate wrestles with her own struggles of learning how to live once more—a not so easy task—and living down her own ghosts.
One should never, ever count out the tenacity of a pirate captain to see his treasure safe. Nathan’s world is treacherous with deadly consequences, but through trust and humanity, Nathan and Cate seek to celebrate the joy of their victory.
In “Treasured Treasures” the question is answered, who is in command of the Ciara Morganse? One question answered creates more questions not answered with Captain Blackthorne… What and who awaits the Captain and the Morganse’s crew off the shores amid the treacherous waters of Dead Goat Island?
“My Pirate Captain series is not a romance but a lifelong love story between the Pirate Captain and a Jacobite widow. It is not a story that ends in smiles and happily ever after’s but there are deep emotions shared and sacrifices witnessed. It is not a Treasure Island “wannabe,” nor will Blackbeard, Mary Reed or Jack Rackham make an appearance but there is Captain Blackthorne, Cate MacKenzie, Thomas, Hattie, and Breston Creswick. This is a story of two deeply scarred people, blinded by their defenses. It’s the story of trust, or rather, the lack of. It’s the story of a loss of faith and disbelief that Providence might ever smile again
“My intention is to publish the 4th book, “Cursed Blessings The Pirate Captain” (TBR 2023) and a full-cast theatre version Audio Drama of the first book TBR 2022. The Pirate Captain Chronicles of a Legend’s Audio Drama will feature top entertainment talent Rosalyn Landor, Sam Hazeldine, Eleanor Tomlinson, Graham McTavish and Tom Mison.”
Kerry Lynne was a history major in college and taught history for a few years. Once Lynne realized that teaching school was not the career to pursue. Kerry explored another talent – decorated art which led to a second career(37 years) of teaching and publishing (instructional manuals) in the decorative painting world. Then much to Lynne’s disdain and as luck would have it a hand stopped working so the decision was made to go back to the long-lost love of writing.
Lynne’s fictional writings include the books that are The Pirate Captain, The Chronicles of a Legend book series; The Pirate Captain – Chronicles of a Legend, (2014 Next Generation Indie Book Finalist Award for Historical Fiction),“Nor Gold, The Pirate Captain”, and “Treasured Treasures, The Pirate Captain” plus a short story written for LocoThology #3- “The Price of Victory” and“Cursed Blessings, The Pirate Captain”, the fourth book in the series TBR 2023.
