In the 1979, 1983, and 1987 Parliamentary elections, he ran for the Liberal Democrats in Hereford and South Herefordshire, and came very close to winning the seat in Hereford.
He is a patron and trustee of Hereford’s Courtyard Arts Centre and serves as chair of the Learning Skills Research Foundation and the Francis W. Reckitt Arts Trust. a Freeman of the City of London and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. For his contributions to the music industry, he received the BASCA Gold Badge of Merit in 2009.
He lives with his wife Sheila in the village of Garway on the Welsh border of Herefordshire. He is married and has two grown sons.
