On The Table Read Magazine, “the best creativity magazine in the UK“, Sir Tim Rice has joined the BBC Maestro platform to teach songwriting, musical theatre and performance.
Sir Tim Rice is the most recent name set to join BBC Maestro’s world class experts, sharing behind the stage access to the world of musical theatre, songwriting, and performance. Sir Tim, one of only 18 people to ever win an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Award, will break down his creative process in this exclusive online course for BBC Maestro. He will share invaluable insights and an unparalleled understanding of what it takes to succeed in musical theater.
Tim Rice CBE is an English lyricist and author who was born on November 10, 1944. He is best known for his collaborations with Andrew Lloyd Webber, with whom he composed, among different shows, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Superstar, and Evita. He also wrote the lyrics for DreamWorks Animation’s The Road to El Dorado and the Alan Menken musical King David.
Rice was born Amersham, Buckinghamshire, Britain. He studied at Lancing College, and attended the Sorbonne in Paris. He worked as a journalist and advertising copywriter after returning to England, where he met Andrew Lloyd Webber in 1965, and the two began working together on musicals.
For his work, Rice has received numerous awards, including two Tony Awards, three Grammy Awards, and two Academy Awards. He has been knighted by Queen Elizabeth II.
Over the course of more than 20 lessons, those who want to break into the genre will learn how to improve their storytelling by writing, performing, and working together. In addition to breakdowns of Sir Tim’s best loved songs, the course will include technical instruction on the specialty of execution, fundamental stages to creating an endurig musical, and composing for film – including both Disney and Bond.
The lessons will look at how to finance creative projects, how to deal with career setbacks, and what musicals, pop, and rock have in common genetically. Sir Tim will be accompanied by well-known figures from the world of musical theater to offer guidance on how to put on an engaging performance on stage. The aspiring songwriter’s and performers’ musical toolkit will be further developed through interactive exercises and detailed course notes.
On bbcmaestro.com, Sir Tim’s course on Writing and Performing Musical Theatre will be available later this summer. The BBC Maestro platform allows participants to explore new learning areas from the comfort of their own homes and features a series of extended, in-depth lessons filmed in 4K with a diverse mix of prestigious experts.
The business online schooling stage created and worked by Maestro Media Ltd offers person courses which can be bought for £80, and yearly memberships for £110.
