Ocellus: The Story of the Twelfth Stone

First book in the Ocellus Series by Emmanuel C Lachlan, Ocellus: The Story of the Twelfth Stone, is an epic fantasy-adventure for age 10 upwards.

When shy and grieving 11-year-old Joshua discovers a glassy-black oval stone in a rock pool with human eye on one side, he senses that the eye is staring at him. The stone is so compelling that he decides to keep it

Soon after, Cassièl, a friendly alien in human form comes to Joshua and tells him he has been searching for the eye-stone, called Ocellus, for trillions of years. Ocellus, together with 12 other stones, is the source of all energy, matter, and life, but trillions of years ago, evil shapeshifters known as the KimMorii stole the 13 stones and hid them across various universes.

Joshua doesn’t believe Cassièl’s story, so to prove it, he takes Joshua and his stepsister Alessa, along with the Ocellus stone, to his own universe. There, the siblings become close friends with other children brought there from different universes and undertake a series of ever more hazardous missions to help retrieve the rest of the stones. However, the cruel KimMorii kidnap Joshua and Alessa’s mother, incarcerating her on an infamous prison planet. Now unable to return to Earth, Joshua discovers some information about Ocellus that calls into question everything Cassièl has told him.

Can Joshua establish the truth about the 13 stones? Can he help defeat the KimMorii and bring peace to the universes, and can he ever find his way back to Earth?

Emmanuel C Lachlan

Based in Godalming, Surrey, England, Emmanuel C Lachlas was writing stories and poems for many years before beginning formal training in creative writing in 2015. He favours micro and flash fiction of 50 to 500 words and his themes are frequently Kafkaesque and often feature the individual against ‘them’ and the system.

His tutor suggested that he expand one of these short pieces, which he then evolved into the first book in the Ocellus Series: The Story of the Twelfth Stone. The second and third books in the series are: Möbius: The Story of the Eighth Stone, and Dodecahedron: The Story of the Second Stone. His current project is Torus: The Story of the Tenth Stone.

When not writing, Emmanuel composes music for choirs and explores philosophy and mathematics.
