Part I: Autophobia

Visii, Autophobia

New EP, Part I: Autophobia by Viisi, by genre-bending artist Viisi pairs his melancholy pop duet “chasing ghosts” with the hypersonic hip-hop anthem “na na na,”, demonstrating his capacity to redefine the boundaries of what is possible.

Chelsea Collins appears in the opening track, “chasing ghosts,” creating a haunting vocal wonderland that explores themes of love, loss, and letting go over spectral reverbs and ethereal echoes. His electric-twinged rap anthem “na na na” follows “chasing ghosts”, asserting Viisi as a versatile wordsmith and multifaceted artist.

Part 1: Autophobia examines Viisi’s most intimate feelings by going deep into his most fundamental memories, showing that he is an artist to watch by pairing these different tracks together.

Good things come in fives. As a high school freshman, when Matthew Borley dropped his first rough cut, he could never have imagined that just five years later he’d be touring Europe and playing packed shows in the South of France.

Matthew’s interest in hip hop was initially sparked by his father when he was a teenager. After hearing a few verses from Eminem, one of the pioneers of hip hop in the 1990s and the most controversial rapper of his time, Matthew was profoundly influenced by his connection to the cutting and unapologetic persona of hip hop. Even though most of Eminem’s lyrics were best rated PG-13, his father was careful to only show his son lines from songs like the classic “Stan” that made a deeper connection.

Rather than being content with just hearing fragments, he did what any typical teenager would do: He dug into the hip-hop rabbit hole by sneaking out an old laptop. Soon, Matthew’s obsession provided a means of escape that quickly developed into Viisi.

The Finnish word for “five,” viisi, is the symbol for the past, present, and future. In his forthcoming “Liiminal” series, Viisi returns to push the boundaries of what it means to be an artist. His music transcends the singular and universal human experiences that have shaped him as an artist and person through his powerful and raw storytelling. Viisi is unafraid to delve into his personal experiences, such as family struggles, disagreements with loved ones, career choices, failing, self-worth, and more, with lyrical honesty and unwavering dedication to his craft. His visceral approach to the story of his evolution, written in prose with messages of life, dreams, merit, and substance, will undoubtedly move and stun listeners.
