17th Century Romance Novel

Published on 26th July 2022, Mary Florida captivates from the outset and will have fans of historical romantic fiction desperate to learn whether protagonist and ultimate man of the moment, John Blackavise, overcomes the trail of misfortune and danger that comes his way to finally win the heart of the woman of his dreams – Mary Florida.

Skilfully using her aptitude for attention to detail (developed through the author’s work as an portrait and equine artist), Lindsey Erith delivers the full romantic package in a well-crafted storyline that features historical accuracy, a strong-willed heroine and emotional conflicts that drive the story forward.

A hugely satisfying romance in which both hero and heroine will capture the hearts of readers, Mary Florida is a fine and credible romance that aptly showcases the writing skills and imagination of this talented debut author.

Mary Florida

Blurb – ‘Mary Florida’ opens the window for readers to escape in the company of a forthright 17th Century Royalist faced with defeat, bastardy, espionage, hatred, and desire for the lady of his urgent dreams.

The man of the moment is the reinvention of what it means to be a hero.

Mary Florida is a romance.  It concerns John Blackavise, who is a forthright and attractive man; an alternative to run-of-the-mill cardboard action men or to introverted sufferers. In essence, he is the reinvention of what it means to be a hero.

He has to confront King Charles’s defeat and deal with the decisive melting pot of his own life. The siren song of the Royalists’ lost cause is subdued by his adventures and his desire for an unattainable beauty.

Will his bastard birth prevent Mary Florida loving him?  Why do enemies gather to do him down? Will he inherit his Godmother’s fortune when she dies, or will he be dead in a ditch? Will Mary Florida awaken to his charms?  All of which, vitally, depends on his survival.

Lindsey Erith

Lindsey Erith was born In Reigate, daughter of the photographer John Erith, and began life as a happy child in the countryside.  After surviving a girls’ public school and coming to terms with severe health problems, she went on to achieve a Graphics Diploma at art school.  This gave an entry to equine and human portraits and strengthened her interest in character and likeness.

Her work includes a double portrait of the eminent dentist who discovered the significance of fluoride, the fine steeplechaser who was the Queen Mother’s hundredth winner, a first-day cover which printed a quarter of a million, illustrative and graphic work and music publicity.

This keen interest in music led to love and a Valentine’s Day happy marriage to the distinguished producer of classical recordings John Boyden, whose belief in his wife opened the gateway to submitting ‘Mary Florida’ to Cranthorpe Millner, the first publisher to see what her husband told her she should proudly proclaim ‘a romance’.

She now lives in Gloucestershire and retains her interest in art and music, whilst being a keen supporter of wildlife conservation.
