As Mark Zuckerberg pronounces the metaverse is the future, it’s already been realised, on a commute by London architect Eric Wong – and can be experienced in cinemas 4th Feb.

Wong, a full time architect, was asked by Oscar-nominated, visionary director Mamoru Hosada to create the virtual world “U” that provides the backdrop for the film BELLE, which is released in UK cinemas next month [There are two final central London screening opportunities – Friday 28th Jan, 6 for 6.30pm, and Tuesday 1st Feb, 12 for 12.30pm].

U

Wong sketched out his dazzling “U” world during his daily commute, creating a labyrinthine wonder for this timely re-imagining of the classic Beauty and the Beast tale, the story of Suzu, a country girl who becomes a music sensation in the virtual world of “U” with the mesmerising avatar Belle.

BELLE had its world premiere at the 74th Cannes Film Festival, where it was met with a 14-minute long standing ovation. The film was also screened at the 65th BFI London Film Festival, and has received a host of five star reviews. It comes to UK cinemas in February.

Enter the Metaverse of ‘U’ now with the first three minutes of the movie.

Synopsis Of BELLE

Suzu is a 17-year-old high school student living in a rural village with her father. For years, she has only been a shadow of herself. One day, she enters “U,” a virtual world of 5 billion members on the Internet. There, she is not Suzu anymore but Belle, a world-famous singer. She soon meets with a mysterious creature. Together, they embark on a journey of adventures, challenges and love, in their quest to become who they truly are.
