Eleven Life Lessons: Empower Your Child To Be Safe And Independent

Eleven Life Lessons by Matthew Collins

In his debut book, Eleven Life Lessons, Matthew Collins, a seasoned martial arts expert and CEO of Samurai Kickboxing, shares practical advice for parents seeking to raise happy, confident, and resilient children. Drawing from his extensive experience teaching over ten thousand students, Collins offers a comprehensive guide to navigating the challenges of childhood and empowering young people to reach their full potential.

Through personal anecdotes, including overcoming cancer, surviving a mugging, and facing the loss of loved ones, Collins provides real-world examples of resilience and perseverance. He equips parents with a valuable toolkit of strategies to address common childhood issues such as bullying, lack of confidence, and self-doubt.

By understanding these lessons and applying them to their own lives, parents can help their children develop the skills necessary to overcome challenges and thrive. Eleven Life Lessons is a must-read for any parent who wants to provide their child with the tools they need to succeed.

Eleven Life Lessons is the book I would love every child to have access to. For me, the relevance of martial arts to children is not the physical skills of Jackie Chan, Bruce or Jet Lee. Instead, it is the teachings of the characters they play. It is the determination, the perseverance, their awareness of themselves and their surroundings, the long journey towards a distant goal, the conquering of challenges and the overcoming of adversity. It is standing up to the bully. It is the social etiquette and discipline adopted by a rebellious mind. It is the hard-won respect from peers and adversaries, and it is the achievement of strength and success from a position of weakness or naivety.

Matthew Collins Teaching

Matthew Collins’ journey in martial arts began with a simple request from his three-year-old nephew, Ben, who begged him to teach him kickboxing. Out of family loyalty, Matthew agreed, but with a twist: he insisted that Ben bring nine of his friends along to make it a proper class.

Matthew Collins

Just a year earlier, Matthew had been teaching English in Japan when he experienced alarming symptoms, including leg pain and difficulty breathing. A trip to the doctor revealed a shocking diagnosis: Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, with a grapefruit-sized tumor on his chest. Despite undergoing eight months of grueling chemotherapy every two weeks, Matthew remained committed to his martial arts training and work.

Today, Matthew is a renowned martial arts instructor, teaching over 1,400 students a week across England. He passionately shares his expertise in kickboxing while emphasizing the importance of life skills such as confidence, self-protection, positive body language, and motivation. His dedication to empowering young people has led him to deliver his self-protection course to The Prince’s Trust.

Eleven Life Lessons draws on Matthew’s personal experiences, including his battle with cancer and his journey as a martial arts master. Through his own life lessons, he offers parents practical advice for raising resilient and confident children.
