Dear Readers

Today is the first day of January 2022, which means it is officially the second year that The Table Read has been running. As we start the year, I’d like to take a moment to reflect on all the incredible work we have done and the amazing contributors we have worked with.

Personally, this has been an immeasurably rewarding experience. It has grown more than I ever imagined, and I’ve connected with some of the most wonderful people. I’ve found new books to read, new music to listen to, new films to watch. I’m following funny, smart and interested creatives on social media that I feel so grateful that I get to communicate with for pleasure, not just for work.

When we started, I was pleased to be putting out an article a day. Now, 6 months on, we’re over a hundred every month. That growth is just incredible, and it proves there are readers and creators out there who want this kind of platform. A platform of celebration and positivity, sharing the wonderful work of creatives rather than knocking them down and picking holes in the work they do.

Of course, it hasn’t all been positive. I recently shared screenshots from a conversation I had with a musician who was quite offended that I had offered to share the platform with him. I’m still not entirely sure why, but my offer was met with such fury that I was called “actually trash”. But, fortunately, that kind of interaction is a one off. Every other person has been a sheer delight, and sharing their work with readers of The Table Read has been a privilege.

As we go into 2022 I am excited to see who we, as a creative crowd, discover next. Writers, artists, filmmakers, podcasters, actors and more, all out there who I haven’t met yet. People doing this wonderful thing of putting themselves out into the world for the entertainment and pleasure of others. People who’s work is just waiting for us to see and read and find. People with stories that will inspire us.

So, I would like to offer huge words of thanks to:

Everybody who reads The Table Read, you make the lives of the creative people you discover and support so much better.

Everybody who has contributed to The Table Read, you offer entertainment and joy to our readers in a world that is so full of sadness and pain.

Everybody who is yet to come, your words, stories, and creations will bring light into the darkness and I am so very excited to find out who you are and what you do, and share it with our readers.

Happy New Year to everybody, let’s make 2022 a good one.

JJ x
