On The Table Read Magazine, “the best book magazine in the UK“, new book, The Island Of The Four Ps by Ed Hajim, is a modern day fable about planning for a future of happiness and success.
The seeds of powerful transformation and inspiration can be found in fiction. Parables can be found in Spencer Johnson’s Who Moved My Cheese and Dr. Seuss’ Oh, The Places You’ll Go, two of the most inspirational guidebooks. For decades, both have inspired graduates, business visionaries, and entrepreneurs. The Island of the Four Ps falls into this prized category: Ed Hajim’s modern fable about planning for the future.
The stories accessibility is what makes it appealing. Hajim doesn’t believe that there is one right way to deal with life changes, and even if you accept the ideas completely, there is no one right way to put them into action. We are able to find the direction that is uniquely right for us with The Island Of Four Ps.
Hajim drew inspiration for this book from his extraordinary life. Hajim spent his childhood in and out of foster homes and orphanages after being kidnapped by his father at the age of three, driven across the country, and told that his mother had died. The insight he shares with readers comes from the intelligence, resilience, and innate leadership he used to rise from poverty to personal and business success.
The four Ps, which have guided Hajim throughout his life, are at the heart of the book. On each of these pillars, he shares his hard-earned wisdom.
In the end, Hajim wants to assist anyone struggling to realize their dreams. He hopes that reading The Island of the Four Ps will make you think about who you are and what you want out of life. Ideally, it will motivate you to take action, assisting you in fully participating in life, pursuing new experiences, and navigating the waves of change.
Author of memoir On the Road Less Traveled, Ed Hajim is an experienced Wall Street executive with more than 50 years of experience in investment, and is the son of Syrian immigrants. Before becoming chairman and CEO of Furman Selz, he held senior management positions with the Capital Group, E.F. Hutton, and Lehman Brothers. Hajim has served as ING Barings, Americas Region’s co-chairman; chairman and CEO of ING Furman Selz Asset Management and ING Aeltus Group; and MLH Capital’s CEO and chairman.
Now the chairman of High Vista, a money management company based in Boston, Hajim began his eight-year term as chairman of the University of Rochester’s board in 2008, after 20 years as a trustee. He gave the school $30 million when he took office, the most money ever given to the school, to help fund scholarships and establish the Edmund A. Hajim School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. He has given generously to organizations that support conservation, education, health care, the arts, and culture through the Hajim Family Foundation.
In 2015, he got the Horatio Alger Grant, given to Americans who epitomize the upsides of initiative, leadership, and commitment to excellence, and who have succeeded in spite of individual misfortunes.
Ed and his wife Barbara have been married for 57 years and have three children and eight grandchildren.
