The Magic of Magus

Proclaiming her fantasy series, The Magic Of Magus, will be the most diverse ever written, P K McHugh instantly hooks readers in with her first release, Magus And The Navaratna.

In 2019, after her husband gifted her the first Harry Potter book, McHugh was issued with a challenge to create a captivating story, with diverse characters, in two weeks. She accepted and, driven by her unwavering belief in the importance of diversity in literature, created the Magic of Magus Series: The World’s First Most Diversity Inclusive Story for Children and Youth. A testament to her passion and dedication, she drew inspiration from her experiences in New Zealand and hopes her readers will find as much joy in her book as she did in creating it, and she invites the public to experience the magic for themselves.

Inspired by her favourite author, Enid Blyton, P K McHugh replaces Blyton’s famous five and secret seven with 18 eighteen-year-olds. While on a mission to celebrate the diversity of each of her protagonists, she will impress readers with her world-building and the authenticity and emotional growth of the eighteen teenagers.

P K McHugh has ambitions for her main characters, and narratives from every country, to be more relatable in more countries and cultures than J K Rowling’s Harry Potter series.  With 200 countries the number to beat, the unique and diverse cast of characters in this first book sets it apart and puts her on the right track.

Magus And The Navaratna features 18 eighteen-year-olds from different countries around the world, including the UK, the USA, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Netherlands, Israel, Palestine, Mongolia, Japan, Indonesia, Bangladesh, India, Tuvalu, Nigeria, Uganda and Russia. Each character brings their unique cultural backgrounds to the experience a magical transformation.

One morning, they are approached by three enigmatic professors from Magus, a mysterious institution, who ask about their dreams before disappearing without a trace. Later, they were informed of a generous anonymous benefactor who would support their pursuit of a Bachelor of Magic degree alongside a conventional degree of their choice at Magus University.

Embarking on a journey of a lifetime, the eighteen travel across the world, discovering enchanting magical places and encountering legendary creatures in some of nature’s most awe-inspiring wonders. Their destination? Magus is an extraordinary university located on a mysterious island. Here, they delve into the study of space, mythology, and magic and participate in unique sports and activities. Required to undertake a dangerous quest, hunting for particles from other planets that had fallen to Earth over thousands of years, their adventure takes a thrilling turn when they are tasked with protecting a set of mythological stones that safeguard humanity.

With their first year living as ordinary 18-year-olds coming to an end, the teenagers undergo a profound transformation, receiving training to become some of the greatest magicians the world has ever seen.
