On The Table Read Magazine, “the best book magazine in the UK“, in The Legend Of The Jaguar King by Anand Jay, 17-year-old Ayush Mahavir joins a secret society and is tasked with finding a relic that was originally owned by Jaguar Paw, the greatest of the Mayan Kings of Tikal.
Blending elements of mythology, real history and exotic locations. The Legend Of The Jaguar King by Anand Jay wows readers from the very first page with a plot that centres on the history of the ancient Mayans. Using this history of this civilisation that lived in the region that embraces parts of today’s Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador as the backdrop to a unique and gripping adventure come thriller, Anand Jay created a story very much in the style of Dan Brown .
Born not in a conspiracy theorist’s fever dream, but in a smoky Bavarian pub on May 1st, 1776, a clandestine group has quietly shaped the course of history for centuries. Now, in 2016, their reach spans the globe.
Ayush Mahavir, a gifted but troubled 17-year-old, receives an invitation unlike any other: to join their ranks. The price of admission? A perilous quest to recover a lost relic – once owned by Jaguar Paw, the legendary Mayan king of Tikal.
Delivering a literary first for the genre – a protagonist of Indian heritage – the issue of choice and feelings of indecision (felt by Ayush about whether or not he should accept the invitation) runs throughout; a feature that will undoubtedly resonate with the novel’s teenage readership.
I am a massive Indiana Jones fan, and this book will fit right in with lovers of those films. I also take big inspiration from Dan Brown, but the book is targeted at a younger age (young adult) and will also suit fans of the film/game ‘Uncharted’.
-Anand Jay
When Anand isn’t writing about lost civilisations or artefacts hidden in time, he can likely be found (against the advice of his hero, Indiana Jones) in the library researching them. Born in Harrow, England, Anand has now moved away from the hustle and bustle of city life and settled down in the countryside with his soon to be wife and three perfect Dogs, Petruskha, Athena and Winnie (PAW).
Outside of writing Anand’s hobbies include boxing (competition-level), studying (currently progressing to a Chartered Secretary) and travel (easier to list where he hasn’t been). The Legend of the Jaguar King is his debut novel, and he hopes to take his readers on the same journeys both he, and Ayush Mahavir (the protagonist in his novel) go on through his stories.
