On The Table Read Magazine, “the best entertainment eBook magazine UK“, due to be published by Colenso Books on September 10th, Mark Allen’s new book, The Bridge At Locri, blends mystery with social history.
The Bridge At Locri
Mark Allen’s second novel, The Bridge At Locri, is a gripping blend of mystery and social history. Following the critical acclaim of his debut, Life Term, which garnered nearly 70 positive Amazon reviews, Allen delivers another thought-provoking narrative.
Set against the backdrop of 1963, The Bridge At Locri introduces a group of idealistic young pacifists who embark on a volunteer project to build a bridge in a small Calabrian community. As their mission unfolds, tensions rise within the group, culminating in the mysterious disappearance of Isabella, a captivating Italian heiress entangled with several members. The specter of the ‘Ndrangheta mafia looms large as questions swirl around whether she has been murdered or kidnapped.
Spanning six decades from 1963 to 2023, the novel traces the interconnected lives of characters from diverse backgrounds—England, East Germany, Bosnia, Australia, and Colombia. Through their personal journeys, Allen offers a poignant reflection on the seismic shifts of the past sixty years. Ultimately, The Bridge At Locri is a powerful exploration of human connection, loss, and the complexities of a world in constant flux.
