Method by Philip Henry

Method

In Philip Henry’s eleventh volume of his North Coast Bloodlines series, he brings one of his first story ideas (and his love of performing arts) to published fruition. Using the acting strategy favoured by the likes of Robert De Niro to hang his plot on, Henry shares a story of a narcissistic protagonist and the murderous mayhem he creates in his favoured world of celebrity and media.

Sean Black was the standout talent of his class, but finds the acting world hard to break into on a professional level. After a chance meeting with another actor, Sean is convinced that if he wants to play a part, he has to live that part.

As Sean’s career begins to take off, he doesn’t shy away from experiencing everything his character would in order to find the truth in his performance. But who is he when he’s not in character? Does he even know anymore? As the roles get bigger and the parts get darker, the risks he must take get greater. Sean won’t stop, but he must be stopped, because there’s madness in his method.

One of the best thrillers to come out of Northern Ireland, Method mesmerises from the get-go and with its highly original and media-focussed narrative.

Method is a book I’d been thinking about writing even before I became a writer. I had this idea about an actor who takes method acting to extremes and will go to any lengths to become the character he’s meant to be playing. So if he’s playing a boxer, he’d learn to box. If he’s playing a drug addict, he’d take drugs. And if he’s playing a murderer….’

I finally just said to myself, what are you waiting for? Write this book!

The release of Method feels like the start of a new phase in my writing, so I took the opportunity to do a rebrand of all my previous titles, with new covers to reflect this. Now they’re all part of one big series – The North Coast Bloodlines – and Method is book eleven in that series, and book twelve is already begun.

-Philip Henry

Born in 1974, Philip Henry first started writing sketches while studying Performing Arts. After that he moved on to short stories and a couple of failed attempts at movie scripts. During long shifts at one of the more boring jobs he had, he began making notes for a novel, which he then wrote on his days off. That novel, Vampire Dawn, was released in 2004 and proved so popular it was extended into a trilogy with Vampire Twilight in 2007 and Vampire Equinox in 2009.

Mind’s Eye, a novel about the monsters of high school, was released in 2006 to great critical acclaim, as was Freak, the story of a boy like no other, released in 2008, and Bleeding in 2010.

My Ivory Summer, Philip’s first novel without a supernatural element, was short-listed for the Self-Published Book of the Year 2012.

Philip continues to write novels, screenplays and short stories, all based around his home on the North Coast of Ireland.
