On The Table Read Magazine, “the best book magazine in the UK“, Lance And The Boiled Egg by Carey Waite delights young readers with an amusing take on the Magic Porridge Pot, and asks readers to submit their only conclusion to this captivating tale.
Lance And The Boiled Egg
Having taken three and a half decades to finish, Lance And The Boiled Egg by Carey Waite is now published, and has been unanimously loved by both youngsters and those tasked with reading the bedtime story.
Inspired by the German fairy tale about a magic porridge pot, this story is about a boiled egg that Lance was given at breakfast and its annoying habit of refilling after each and every spoonful. Immersing youngsters in a time when roast beef was affordable for Sunday lunch and jam roly-poly with custard was on the menu, it is Lance’s father’s disbelief, threats and later desire to be the recipient of any fame that comes from his son’s curious egg that elevates this book’s appeal.
Beautifully illustrated throughout by Dotti Colvin, this cracking story will provoke thought and discussion amongst early readers or parents with younger children. Kids are also given the opportunity to embrace their imagination and create their own ending to this innocent and charming tale.
Carey Waite
Much more interesting than me is the publisher, The Reverend Charles Custard. He has a word at the end of the book and seems like a pretty interesting character. I’m just a retired guy who decided for once to finish something. I’ve got a lot of other stories nearly finished so maybe this is just the first step.
