On The Table Read Magazine, “the best book magazine in the UK“, Chrissy Ward’s The Profile Picture sees 50-something Maria immerse herself in the world of social media, ultimately reuniting her with people from her past.

The Profile Picture

The Profile Picture by Chrissy Ward explores the hardships of being a middle aged woman, in which women of all ages will be invested in the protagonist’s ups and downs, challenges, and future.

Maria, now in her mid-fifties, returns to her home county after the beloved business she owned was sold. There, she reluctantly finds herself drawn into the world of social media. Consequently, Maria finds herself reunited with numerous characters from her past at once.

She experiences an emotional and turbulent journey between her past and her present as a result of the subsequent events, during which she discovers the answer to a particular unsolved mystery that has been buried deep within her memory for a very long time. Now that she has the missing piece to her own life’s puzzle, Maria must select a course of action once and for all.

With numerous unexpected twists and turns, this new author explores multiple story points and how they are revisited and mixed together as the story bounces to and fro from the current day to the eighties and mid nineties. Her decision to make use of the widespread use of social media as the impetus for connecting the dots in Maria’s life places this female businesswoman on a path to new opportunities that she had never considered before.

The Profile Picture is praised by all who read it, making it a standout summer read and establishing Chrissy Ward as a new novelist to keep an eye out for.

Chrissy Ward

Chrissy Ward wrote her debut novel, The Profile Picture, during Covid lockdown. She explained she was furloughed from her regular job, so reading became an important distraction. After reading an article by Anne Hegarty (The Governess from ITV’s The Chase), who claims that everyone has at least one book in them, she decided to give writing a try. Even though it was a crazy time, it was probably the best time because there were no other distractions and basically nowhere to go.

It wasn’t long before she had the plot and the direction down, but Chrisy found that the best part of writing The Profile Picture was creating her characters, who became her best friends as she wrote.

After the book was finished, the only reason she eventually considered publishing was due to the encouragement of family and friends. As the saying goes, the rest is history.
