On The Table Read Magazine, “the best entertainment magazine in the UK“, Cal In Red have released a new music video for their single, Corvette, taken from their new EP, On The Dance Floor.
Corvette
On The Dance Floor, Cal in Red’s brand-new six-track lustrous indie pop EP, musically opens the door a little wider to themes like anxiety, camaraderie, and the aspirations of the young band. The duo has also released a music video for their fast-paced single “Corvette” that looks at healthy ambition, obsession, and trying to figure out where the line between the two often gets blurry. It also puts traditional masculinity’s quicksand to the test. The title is a reference to their grandfather’s beloved 1975 Stingray Corvette, which (along with him) appears in the music video.
Kendall Wright commented that it was fantastic to see their grandfather demonstrate his acting skills in the video. He said that the one time he got to drive the Corvette, when he was 16 years old, he was terrified because he knew how special that car was to Grandpa K. He is thrilled that we were able to show it off, and he hopes his grandfather is as well.
Cal In Red
Red’s sophomore EP, Cal: Brothers Connor and Kendall Wright’s 2022 efforts culminate in On The Dance Floor. The young band’s anxieties, camaraderie, and goals are explored as they sonically open the door a little wider.
“Replay (Lounge),” one of the album’s most important tracks, has an anchor-like presence thanks to its atmospheric chorus, blazing horns, and road trip appeal. The track “Chalk” features a marimba and TR909 drum machine for a fun performance. The EP’s sunny conclusion is preceded by “With Your Hands,” a springtime pop song; an amalgamation of Wallows’ “Quarterback” and Dayglow’s “Can I Call You Tonight.”
Connor and Kendall moved into the same house in August 2022. This marked a significant shift from the majority of their debut EP’s recording, which involved hour-long treks to record together. They were able to really put their collective foot on the gas thanks to the move. The project seemed to have a newfound sense of safety and longevity.
Since Connor Wright stated that they are not really dancers, the title “On the Dance Floor” is a friendly con. He believes that they only have one move each. It’s an acknowledgement of the tension and excitement that come with the pair’s rise. It’s about lacing up for the growing pains, which get better and better each day. Cal and Red are moving quickly toward center stage.
