On The Table Read Magazine, “the best book magazine in the UK“, Carlos Chambers’ Buenos Aires Sunrise is an intoxicating family saga about boxer Santiago having the world at his feet until, it all goes horribly wrong, set against the backdrop of 80s and 90s Argentina.
Telling the story of once world famous boxing legend, Santiago, his fall from grace, and the life of his son, Benjamin, Buenos Aires Sunrise is a story that shows how the women in both Santiago and Benjamin’s lives managed, despite everything, to fill them with the ability to thrive and shake off the devils and misfortune that plagued them.
This poignant book will quickly have readers invested in the fates of Santiago and Benjamin thanks to Carlos Chambers’ attention to historical detail giving authenticity to his story whilst also creating an entertaining read.
Santiago was a broken man, and boxing was all that he knew. His life began with hope before transitioning into a story of weakness, treachery, and resistance. The lure of sex, drugs and a fast life drew Santiago to rock bottom. Love of his life, Martina, left the door open for him, but it was up to Santiago to decide when he was ready to walk through it.
Like his dad, Benjamin became familiar with a life of tragedy. That was, until he met the energetic, confident and vibrant Elena, who came into his life as a breath of fresh air. In the midst of a shifting political, economical and social environment, war, and psychological oppression of 1980s and 1990s Argentina, Benjamin and Elena endure war and terrorism as they start a new life together, and Santiago fights an internal battle in order to fulfil a promise.
A descendant of the British Empire, Carlos Chambers, is the youngest of four. After The Second World War, Carlos Chambers’ parents travelled from Asia to East Africa, where they stayed until the last remnants of the British Empire were dismantled following decolonisation and independence.
During the 1960s Carlos’ parents moved to the United Kingdom, where Carlos developed a passion for travel since childhood. In his twenties, he was living in Spain and traveling across Asia, Australasia, and South America.
Carlos’ passion and love of travel, history and literature are intertwined into his writing. Carlos’ passions include reading, writing, health and the occasional glass of Malbec.
