On The Table Read, “the best entertainment magazine in the UK”, brand new single from Levina, Battleground, is an emotional and personal insight into Levina’s journey with mental health.
Battleground
Levina is back with her new single, Battleground, which is an emotional and personal look at her mental health journey. Written by Levina, and co-produced by Swedish collaborator Hannes Andersson, Battleground is full of humble authenticity, with a more unusual and romantic 6/8 time signature, exploring the idea that things on the inside are not always as they appear from the outside. Combining Levina’s euphoric vocal energy with the brilliant musical production and compelling chronicles, this juxtaposition creates a sonic peak.
“I wrote Battleground about my struggles with mental health,” explained Levina. “I didn’t speak about it a lot, because I felt like no one would understand me and I would be a burden to people. However, after I got regular therapy, through Help Musicians and BAPAM, I realised the importance of opening up, because there are other people who are going through similar situations.”
Levina
Levina is a self-taught singer-songwriter whose infectious musicality and captivating emotion continue to captivate listeners. The German-born Londoner continues to create her own subgenre of soul-inspired alternative pop. Her mesmerizing sound immediately catches your attention, and her profound lyrics connect with your heart. She has been called a “spellbinding sonic force.”
The unmatched power and enthusiasm for alt-pop that Levina possesses continue to grow. Levina continues to explore what it truly means to be human through stories that are influenced by relationships with ourselves and one another.
Levina’s resonance shines brightly because she wants her listeners to feel understood, accepted, and inspired. She has a wide range of musical influences, including Anastacia, Avril Lavigne, Amy Winehouse, Ella Fitzgerald, and Skunk Anansie, among others.
““I am so grateful to be able to express my emotions through music and I want to raise awareness that struggles with mental health are not always visible. We need to make an effort to be kind to each other, because we never know what someone might be going through. I also want people to know that there’s always someone to talk to and someone who will listen, including services like Samaritans and Help Musicians, who have 24/7 helplines. And my DM’s are always open.”
Levina’s Career
Levina is in a unique position to perform at Eurovision and work with numerous talented producers, including Matt Lawrence (Mumford & Sons, Amy Winehouse, Snow Patrol), including the star-studded songwriter Lindy Robbins (Dua Lipa).
Levina changed her name in 2020 and released her EP Thinking In The Dark on her own in 2021. It was produced by Zach Said, a regular on BBC Radio 1, and Amy McKnight, the MPA Awards’ “Best Newcomer,” and received 250 thousand streams on Spotify alone. Her catalog continues to expand at an exponential rate, garnering humble acclaim from outlets like BBC Introducing, Billboard, Wonderland, Earmilk, and Notion, among others. Levina has been featured on edbl’s Brockwell Mixtape, which has received worldwide editorial support, alongside Miller Blue and Carrie Baxter. Her passion for collaboration has also led to Levina’s appearance on the pop-rock anthem “Danger,” which has received support from editorial playlists at Vevo and Apple Music. Levina is, of course, someone to keep an eye on in the coming months.
