On The Table Read Magazine, “the best creativity magazine in the UK“, in her award-winning cookbook Ozlem’s Turkish Table, Ozlem Warren shares authentic, easy-to-follow Turkish recipes from her homeland, and raises money to help earthquake victims in Turkey.
Turkish food is a rich and different culinary practice that has made a permanent imprint on the cutting edge world. From the Middle East to Europe, Turkish cooking has been generally embraced for its extraordinary mix of flavors and fixings. It has had an impact on the modern world, from its influence on cooking styles in neighbouring countries, to its popularity as a healthy and delicious choice of food around the world. Turkish food has a rich cultural heritage, and the flavours and cooking techniques continue to evolve and develop to this day.
Furthermore, Warren has launched a fundraising drive for the casualties of the recent earthquake in Turkey. Warren, who lost family members and whose 450-year-old family home in Antakya was destroyed by the disaster, gave 100 percent of the proceeds from the signed copies of Ozlem’s Turkish Table bought from the UK in February to the Turkey Mozaik Foundation. This UK charity works to transfer funds directly to help Turkey’s earthquake relief.
Warren has since pledged 25% of her proceeds, until further notice, to earthquake relief in Turkey. So far, over 300 signed copies of Ozlem’s Turkish Table: Recipes From My Homeland have been sold, raising £8,496.00 for the cause. Warren’s initiative shows her unwavering dedication to supporting those impacted by this terrible disaster.
Born and raised in Turkey, Ozlem Warren is enthusiastic about sharing the historical and cultural wealth of her country through its food. Her journey into the culinary world began on a different continent, and far from her own country. In 2005, she joined Central Market Cooking School in Texas, offering Turkish cookery classes as a guest chef in Austin, Houston, and San Antonio.
In 2009, her family moved to Britain, inspiring her to launch her Turkish recipe blog, Ozlem’s Turkish Table, so she could connect with Turkish food lovers all over the world. A decade on and her adoration for Turkish cooking has opened up previously unheard-of chances for her showing classes at JA University in Amman, Jordan; London’s Divertimenti Cookery School, Blid and Hatton Gatherings, and the Istanbul Culinary Institute in Istanbul. She has been teaching her cooking skills in Turkey, Britain, Jordan, and the USA for over 10 years.
Her award winning cookbook, Ozlem’s Turkish Table: Recipes From My Homeland, is a tribute to her southern Turkish roots, including recipes from her hometown, Antioch, Antakya.
