Rising singer-songwriter Avery Lynch has once again captured the hearts of listeners with her latest single, “the boys who don’t know what they want,” a poignant exploration of love, vulnerability, and the frustration of indecision.

Since her debut in 2020, the Pennsylvania-born artist has built a devoted global following, surpassing 100 million streams with her emotionally rich, piano-driven ballads. This new release further cements her reputation as a masterful storyteller, blending minimalist production with her signature lush vocals to create a sound that’s as captivating as it is relatable.

The track delves into the complexities of relationships with men who can’t seem to make up their minds, a theme that strikes a universal chord. With lyrics that cut straight to the core and a melody that lingers long after the final note, “the boys who don’t know what they want” showcases Avery’s remarkable ability to transform personal experiences into songs that feel intimately familiar to her audience. It’s a bittersweet anthem for anyone who’s ever found themselves caught in the orbit of someone unsure of their own desires.

The title of the song really says it all. I wrote this song about those ‘almost’ relationships that I’ve been in myself and have observed around me — people will act the part of someone in a relationship while not wanting one, or they’ll want a relationship and not act on it. I made this song as a sister-song to ‘you’re just a guy” and, just like that song, this doesn’t feel specifically sad to me, it feels more matter-of-fact. It’s just something I’ve observed that we’ve all experienced and don’t want to experience anymore.

Avery’s musical journey began at age 7, when she started composing piano pieces in her Pennsylvania hometown. That early passion evolved into songwriting, and after relocating to Los Angeles, she honed a distinctive style marked by romantic, soft vocals and evocative piano arrangements. Her creative process remains deeply personal: every song starts with Avery at her piano, pouring her emotions into demos that she later refines with her tight-knit team. This hands-on approach ensures that her music retains an authenticity that resonates with fans and critics alike.

Often described as a “happy girl filled with sad songs,” Avery draws inspiration from her own life, the world she observes, and the stories she encounters in books, films, and beyond. Her ability to weave these influences into compelling narratives has earned her accolades from outlets like Just Jared and EARMILK, as well as a growing legion of listeners who connect with her vulnerability and honesty. Last year’s signing with RECORDS (Sony Music) was a milestone that underscored her ascent, affirming her place as one of the most promising voices in contemporary music.

With “the boys who don’t know what they want,” Avery Lynch continues to prove why she’s a force to be reckoned with. Her star is undeniably on the rise, and this latest release is a powerful reminder of her talent for turning raw emotion into timeless art. As she builds on her already impressive catalog, there’s no doubt that Avery’s future shines brighter than ever.
