I interviewed Vidya Math about her life and career, the story of her new book, Luminosity Of Crystals & Dimensions Of The Heart, and what inspires her writing.

Tell me a bit about who you are.

My name is Vidya Math and I am an author, poet and dancer.

When did you first WANT to write a book?

When I was 7 years old.

When did you take a step to start writing?

When I was 7 years old.

How long did it take you to complete your first book from the first idea to release?

My first book took 5 months to write and I only submitted it for publication around 12 years after that – then the publication process took around 1.5 years.

How long did it take you to complete your latest book from the first idea to release?

14 years.

Focusing on your latest release. What made you want to write Luminosity Of Crystals & Dimensions Of The Heart?

Situations I came across in life, spiritual realisations and I have a rich imagination and had imagined up a world that was delightful, which I felt compelled to write about.

What were your biggest challenges with writing Luminosity Of Crystals & Dimensions Of The Heart?

There were no great challenges with it.

Who or what inspired you when creating your Protagonist?

Loving people who lead interesting lives.

Who or what inspired you when creating your Antagonist?

People who take advantage of other people’s trusting and loving natures.

What is the inciting incident of Luminosity Of Crystals & Dimensions Of The Heart?

The inciting incident in the first story in the book is when the main character chances upon an ex-boyfriend.

What is the main conflict of Luminosity Of Crystals & Dimensions Of The Heart?

Women and their emotions about men.

Did you plot Luminosity Of Crystals & Dimensions Of The Heart in advance, or fly by the seat of your pants and write freely?

I wrote freely.

Did you get support with editing, and how much editing did Luminosity Of Crystals & Dimensions Of The Heart need?

The book was edited by the publisher, but nothing in the book was really affected. The editor made a good suggestion about a currency I had written about that made sense, so I changed that one thing.

What is the first piece of writing advice you would give to anyone inspired to write a story?

Go with it – don’t stop to let your mind interfere.

Can you give me a hint about any further books you’re planning to write?

I have another 3 books in publication – one is a sequel to the book that is currently being published. Please look forward to it 😊

And, finally, are your proud of your accomplishment? Was it worth the effort?

I feel very excited and proud of having written the book and it was worth the effort because I feel it will bring a lot of joy and meaningfulness to people when they read it.
