Author Interview – Tehminé Grigorian – Your Past Can’t Break You, On The Table Read Magazine, “the best entertainment eBook magazine UK“, life coach and motivational speaker, Tehminé Grigorian, shares how her new book, Your Past Can’t Break You, helps readers cope with negative feelings, and what inspired her to make it.
I interviewed Tehminé Grigorian about her life and career, the inspiration behind her new book, Your Past Can’t Break You, and the work that went into creating it.
My name is Tehminé Grigorian. I am French-Canadian with Armenian heritage. I love writing. When I am writing, I find myself in connection with my soul. I feel happy and at peace. I love theater, acting, soccer, reading, traveling and I enjoy delicious food from all over the world.
It was during COVID.
Right away.
It took me 3 years. I got to the halfway point and stopped. My self-judgment and fear were so strong that I stopped writing. I was judging myself. Telling myself, “Who am I to write?”, that my English is not perfect and that I am being ridiculous. I took a break and stopped writing for 3 months. But, my desire to write the book was so big that I decided not to let fear control me and I wrote it anyway.
When I made the decision to write a book, I thought – we all have a story to tell that we learn from so much. Thanks to our story we become who we are, we evolve, we grow, and I thought this didn’t happen by coincidence. There is a reason for it. And so, I decided that the reason is to share, to help and to bring my story to light.
Self-judgment. From my experience I think we are our own worst judges; we dare to think about ourselves the things that we would never think of for other people. There is no limit. So, the big challenge was to overcome that judgment and finally accept that I could do it. That I can be a writer. That I am good enough to write a book.
I didn’t do any research. This book is based on my own story.
When I am writing, I don’t have a plan I just take a pen and paper (or laptop) and I just center myself to my heart and write whatever comes. Some days, I sit down, and nothing comes to me. And that’s okay, it is part of the process.
Yes, I did work with editor and so my book was edited as all books need to be edited.
I would say – go, go, go! Do not even think about how it will come out or what will happen. Do not question yourself. Do not judge yourself. Just open your heart and surrender and write. Trust the process.
Yes, I do have a plan to write the 2nd book and I do know the subject, but I will keep it to myself for now. 😊
Yes, I am happy that I have overcome my fear of writing. Seeing my book out there, seeing that it can be helpful to other people and seeing that goal achieved, makes me very happy. It is definitely worth it because when we write a book, we are not only writing for ourselves, but we are also writing for others as well – to give a message, to share a story, to change lives, to bring a smile and to give hope. So, for all these reasons – Yes, it is worth it. This is one of the best things I have accomplished in my life so far.
