On The Table Read Magazine, “the best book magazine in the UK“, author and life coach Shannon Norman talks about what inspired her to write her new self help book, Confident As A Peacock.
I interviewed Shannon Norman about her life and career, how she hopes to inspire her readers with her new book, Confident As A Peacock, and her writing process.
I’m originally a country girl who grew up in a rural area in the mid-west in the United States. I was on my own at the age of 18 years of age. I was a non-traditional student, always working multiple jobs while furthering my education. I’ve worked hard to gain the education, experience, and learnings over my 25 year career.
I’m full of energy and passionate about helping others be more happy and do what they love. I’m on a mission to educate as many people as possible on the Accept The Compliment worldwide movement and on the areas to focus on to find and keep their confidence.
When I was younger adult, I recall having the idea of writing a book but it vanished quickly. The negative self-talk was too strong. It’s just been over the last three years that the idea came back.
About two years ago.
About two years.
I frequently talk with people or notice through observation that many people don’t present with a high amount of confidence. My human resources career has allowed me to help develop many people and I’m ignited to see them believe in themself and the drastic change in how they feel and the decisions they make when they are more confident.
Adding the chapter about my childhood trauma and what I’ve been through was the hardest part. I received feedback that readers want to get to know the author and as I reflected, I’m the same way when reading books. I dug back through many memories to share just enough that I felt readers could relate to me and see that finding and keeping your confidence is possible, even if you’ve been faced with challenges.
Because I frequently hear people say they bought a book, but don’t have time to read it, I intentionally committed to this book being short enough to read in about an hour. This meant I had to get straight to the point and stick to it.
Yes, my editing was done by BookBaby. It was reviewed one time. Prior to sending to BookBaby, my niece was instrumental in giving me feedback and editing from the beginning.
Just start writing. Don’t let any worries get in your way. There’s no specific order you have to follow.
No plans as of today. I know myself well enough to not say the word ‘never’.
Absolutely, I’m even more proud than I imagined. It was totally worth the effort.
