When did you first WANT to write a book?

I’ve always kept journals ever since I could write. Was in college level lit classes during 7th grade. Would often fill notebooks full of stories.

When did you take a step to start writing?

Once print-on-demand, self-publishing removed the entire cliquish process of publishing books, I began to serious write and format a book for publishing.

How long did it take you to complete your first book from the first idea to release?

About 6 months. I did not have guidance besides online self-help. I wanted to do each step completely including editing, formatting and cover art. Sometimes, involving other people can slow down the process.

How long did it take you to complete your latest book from the first idea to release?

My latest book is a fiction that is meant to be at least a 3-book series. It took about 3 months to write, format, and publish.

Focusing on your latest release. What made you want to write Clipbook Time Finder?

Some of my fans have been asking for a fiction book. While I prefer to work in non-fiction, I am trying to make the series very believable. It is a time travel series.

What were your biggest challenges with writing Clipbook Time Finder?

Making sure the fantasy parts are consistent. As a primarily non-fiction, documentary type author, accuracy is important to me.

What was your research process for Clipbook Time Finder?

All the places mentioned in the book are actual places that someone could visit. The book is based on an actual book full of newspaper clippings sent to me by a fan. I used that book as the method by which the fictional time traveler keeps track of where he or she is in time.

How did you plan the structure of Clipbook Time Finder?

I infused it with parts of my own life, people and situations I know and added in the fantasy. Thinking of the 3-book series, I knew I had time to develop characters as I go along.

Did you get support with editing, and how much editing did Clipbook Time Finder need?

No, I edit, format, and do the covers all myself. I did however have a friend proof-read it.

What is the first piece of writing advice you would give to anyone inspired to write a book?

Write the first one with the idea that you aren’t going to really sell any copies. This is a “throw-away” book for you to learn the process. Don’t get too caught up in the story.

Can you give me a hint about any further books you’re planning to write?

The 2 additional books in this series will take place in a Viking village in the 1100s and another one in Mexico in the 1400-1500s. Both will be alternative history stories.

And, finally, are your proud of your accomplishment? Was it worth the effort?

Because I write as if it is art, I can focus on the content rather than sales. I believe I deliver great content that is re-readable and doesn’t get shelved when the reader is done.
