I intereviewed author Nevsah Fidan Karamehmet about her work, her book, Awakening, and the advice she has to inspire others.
Tell me a bit about who you are.
I grew up in Izmir, the west coast of Turkey which is right across from the Greek Islands. My father’s family is from Greece and my mother’s family is from the north. I grew up in a very mixed culture with Italian, Turkish, French and Greek friends. I graduated from an American High School and I was a very popular student in high school, being the captain of the volleyball team and the flag girl (which was a big thing at our school, I carried our national Flag in big events and represented our school in Turkey). I was a hardworking, disciplined girl as far as I can remember. I then studied architecture and decided to master human psychology and architecture, that’s where my real journey began…
When did you first WANT to write a book?
I first wanted to write a book 20 years ago.
When did you take a step to start writing?
I have been writing as long as I can remember. I started probably when I was 10 years old.
How long did it take you to complete your first book from the first idea to release?
It took me 2 years 🙂
How long did it take you to complete your latest book from the first idea to release?
One year
Focusing on your latest release. What made you want to write Awakening?
I wanted to share self mastery tools I have been using to master all areas of my life with more people.
What were your biggest challenges with writing Awakening?
Systemising all the information and methods I know of.
What was your research process for Awakening?
I read at least an hour everyday and write blogs almost everyday. So I already have loads of research, I combined the one related to my book.
How did you plan the structure of Awakening?
I wanted to cover all areas of life so I structured the book with sections related to relationships, money, business, health, social, emotional etc.
Did you get support with editing, and how much editing did Awakening need?
Yes it needed a little bit editing.
What is the first piece of writing advice you would give to anyone inspired to write a book?
My first advice would be JUST START WRITING. Write everything you know, stay in the flow and with as if you are writing separate blogs, then structure them in sections you want to have on your book and start editing combining them all and creating the main idea.
Can you give me a hint about any further books you’re planning to write?
I want to write books on different areas of life, one book on money, another one on relationships, another one on business, etc.
And, finally, are your proud of your accomplishment? Was it worth the effort?
Yes.
