Author Interview – Linda Elsegood – The LDN Book 3

I interviewed founder of the LDN Research Trust, Linda Elsegood, about her experiences with MS, being asked to write The LDN Book 3, and the work that went into it.

Tell me a bit about who you are.

I’m Linda Elsegood, I have relapsing/remitting MS and was having attacks every 6 months; it took months for a relapse to recede, only to have another one start. In October 2003, I was told I had secondary progressive MS and there was nothing anyone could do to help me. Following my success with LDN, I founded the LDN Research Trust as a U.K. non-profit registered charity in 2004. The LDN Research Trust is run purely by volunteers; we receive no funding and rely on donations. We liaise closely with prescribers, pharmacists, and patients, offering support and education.

When did you first WANT to write a book?

I never planned on writing a book, I was contacted by a publishing house that asked me to write an LDN Book. The idea was scary and frightening, and I declined, but they wouldn’t take no for an answer. The rest, as they say, is history.

When did you take a step to start writing?

Once I realised I was going to have to create an LDN book, I put together a to-do list which was invaluable and made the process streamlined.

How long did it take you to complete your first book from the first idea to release?

10 months.

How long did it take you to complete your latest book from the first idea to release?

12 months.

Focusing on your latest release. What made you want to write The LDN Book 3?

This was the third book in the series, covering conditions, not in the first two books.

What were your biggest challenges with writing The LDN Book 3?

Dealing with eleven LDN Medical Experts to make sure they stayed on schedule.

What was your research process for The LDN Book 3?

To make sure the latest information was included and all the references. This was by doing research online for clinical trial data.

How did you plan the structure of The LDN Book 3?

I created a spreadsheet with a timeline, adding the chapter and who was the expert to write that chapter, The forward and the epilogue.

Did you get support with editing, and how much editing did The LDN Book 3 need?

We had a professional editor who was invaluable, and there wasn’t much editing required.

What is the first piece of writing advice you would give to anyone inspired to write a book?

Be organised, create a timeline before you start, and stick to it. Have a clear vision of your aim.

Can you give me a hint about any further books you’re planning to write?

We have in progress our 20th Anniversary Book called New Horizons. It is a book of LDN Testimonials from Prescribers, Researchers, Pharmacists, and Users to be released in 2024. The following year, we plan a series of books called The LDN Book of Case Studies.

And, finally, are your proud of your accomplishment? Was it worth the effort?

It was well worth the effort; getting the right people to help and support is invaluable.
