I interviewed John Sealey about his life and career, what inspires his writing, and the work that went into his new release, A Young Man’s Awakening.

Tell me a bit about who you are.

My name  is John Sealey and I have spent my entire working life in the Film and Television industry

When did you first WANT to write a book?

John Sealey

After retiring from being actively involved in film and TV production I became restless and needed something to keep my mind active. I had written a novel in the early Seventies and wonder whether I could write another more serious book.

When did you take a step to start writing?

The step was rather taken for me. I was living in Newhaven at the time and I chanced to meet John Lawson and we got talking. He started to tell his live story of being a one-time violent criminal who had turned to God and was now a missionary visiting prisons, many of which he had himself been incarcerated, relating his story, telling there is hope and a better way of living away from crime. It was then I decide I wanted to write his story, I did and it is called “If A Wicked Man”

How long did it take you to complete your first book from the first idea to release?

It took me eighteen months

How long did it take you to complete your latest book from the first idea to release?

I am on my latest book, a comedy about a pop singer who becomes an All In Wrestler

What made you want to write A Young Man’s Awakening?

Reading all the stuuf about Donald Trump and Wall Street, I decide to write a comedy about greed and poverty from the opposite of the political spectrum.

What were your biggest challenges with writing A Young Man’s Awakening?

Research as in all my books

A Youg Man’s Awakening

Who or what inspired you when creating your Protagonist?

It is the chicken and the egg. Either the protagonist creates the story of the story creates the protagonist.

Who or what inspired you when creating your Antagonist?

The same answer as before. For every Protagonist there has to be a Antagonist

Did you plot A Young Man’s Awakening in advance, or fly by the seat of your pants and write freely?

I get an idea, begin to research it, because I love mixing fiction with historical facts to give the story more reality.

Did you get support with editing, and how much editing did A Young Man’s Awakening need?

I do the first proof reading, but the trouble is I get son engrossed in the story I miss many typing errors, so have to have a professional to do the final proof read.

What is the first piece of writing advice you would give to anyone inspired to write a story?

First of all  believe in the story you want to write, and then start writing, after a couple of chapters let someone you trust read it and give you their honest opinion, don’t be put off by their comments, learn form then and continue, its hard work but there is no greater feeling than when you you’ve actually written a book and had it published.

Can you give me a hint about any further books you’re planning to write?

As I mentioned I am in the process of writing a comedy about a POP SINGER who becomes an All In Wrestler before making it big as a POP Singer.

And, finally, are your proud of your accomplishment? Was it worth the effort?

Yes I am and yes it is worth al the effort for it is fulfilling.
