On The Table Read Magazine, “the best book magazine in the UK“, author Francis T. Perry Williams talks about the inspiration behind his new book, Saving Christ: Starway Seven.
Written by JJ Barnes
I interviewed author Francis T. Perry Williams about his life and career, what inspired him to write his new book, Saving Christ: Starway Seven, and his creative writing process.
I am a former personal trainer, actor and writer who now wants to write books that have deep meaning and consequences. I believe humans are taking this planet for granted and steps must be taken to protect everything that is not human meaning other animals or life of all forms and the trees and such that keep us alive. In simplistic terms, humans need to have more love and be more like Jesus.
My first style of writing was plays, one acts and screenplays. I wrote a screenplay called Pollen and the Ring of Harmony and after many years I still loved it so much I wanted more so I made it into a novel.
In grade school I even started to write poems.
This may seem funny but over twenty five years. I just never gave up on it.
This one was a lot quicker. Nine months for the whole thing. Six months of research on Jesus and three months to write it- all 114000 words.
I was reading a National Geographic article about Jesus and I just couldn’t stop thinking about him. I am not overly religious but this really hit me. I wanted to know who this person, man or god really was. I felt like I wanted to portray him as a friend and not just a god. I said to myself, what would he really be like in person so I researched everything I could find and came to my own conclusions. I felt like I really hit the mark on this one. I can’t prove it but I have faith in it.
That’s easy, trying to find information on Jesus. There just isn’t much out there. Most if not all of it is not proven. No one even knows his true birthdate or even truly where he was born. So little is known so like a huge puzzle I put the pieces together as best as I could.
First of all it had to be a woman. I wanted Jesus to see her as almost more than an equal. In the time of Jesus women were not respected and I wanted my main character, Jennifer to change all that. And in my book she surely does.
First of all I needed two of them. One would be in the present time and it turns out to be the President of the United States. The President blames God for the death of his only son. Another, sent by the President is in the time of Jesus. He is ordered to kill Jesus before he dies on the cross thus changing religion from that point on. Jennifer must stop him at all cost.
When Jennifer decides to head the mission to go back in time and meet the real Jesus.
Jennifer, being in total love with Jesus has to save him only to know fully that he will soon die on the cross and there is nothing she can do about it.
Way in advance. I wrote the main outline in a night and I stayed pretty loyal to it.
I wrote the book chapter by chapter with an editor. I used an exceptional service headed by its president Mr. David Leonhardt owner of THGM writers. He found me an excellent editor. She went through each chapter twice and was very valuable to me. She also knew a lot about religion which helped. She did state that she never had a writer who did as much research as I did.
That is simple, just make your characters sound real. So many writers try to make their words sound almost poetic. Real people in life just don’t speak that way.
It’s called the ‘Saving’ series. After Saving Christ: Starway Seven there is Saving Freedom: Starway Eight. That one is about going back in time to prevent slavery from ever happening in the United States.
In one word, Yes!
