David Wooldridge

When did you first WANT to write a book?

After a number of years into retirement when my physical abilities started to wane.

When did you take a step to start writing?

Just under one year ago.

How long did it take you to complete your first book from the first idea to release?

Approximately 8 months.

What made you want to write From Darkness To Retribution?

I had been invited by a film producer friend to write a screenplay. I realised that I not only enjoyed the process but also believe I had a bit of a talent for it.

What were your biggest challenges with writing From Darkness To Retribution?

The formatting of the book to satisfy Amazons criteria.

Who or what inspired you when creating your Protagonist?

My Grandmother left Ireland with her twin sister at the age of 13 and stowed away on a boat to London. She lived as a street urchin for a number of years living on her wits. She was a wonderful tough lady just like the main character in my book.

Who or what inspired you when creating your Antagonist?

There are a number of Antagonist inspired by real life events.

What is the inciting incident of From Darkness To Retribution?

A young woman witnessing a crime, beIng drugged and left to die in the depths of a cave complex. She is saved by a message from her dead twin brother.

What is the main conflict of From Darkness To Retribution?

The young woman together with her grandmother resolve to find and punish the Antagonists who left the young woman to die. Their task is difficult as the Antagonists are serving police officers.

Did you plot From Darkness To Retribution in advance, or fly by the seat of your pants and write freely?

A bit of both. I had the ideas in my head. Produced a rough outline and then wrote freely.

Did you get support with editing, and how much editing did From Darkness To Retribution need?

No formal editing. I had friends/family read the draft and made the necessary corrections.

What is the first piece of writing advice you would give to anyone inspired to write a story?

Don’t procrastinate. Get on with it.

Can you give me a hint about any further books you’re planning to write?

My next book ‘From White feather to Retribution’ is about a pilot, wrongly accused of a pilot error that caused the death of his student. He is given a White Feather, (a sign of cowardice) and resolves to clear his name and return the feather.

And, finally, are your proud of your accomplishment? Was it worth the effort?

Undoubtedly. I found the whole process rewarding and gratifying.
