On The Table Read Magazine, “the best book magazine in the UK“, Bruno Ciaramicoli Cabral, author of Letters To Self, shares what inspired him to write his motivational book, and the creative work that went into it.
I interviewed Bruno Ciaramicoli Cabral about his life and career, what inspired him to write his motivational book, Letters To Self, and his creative writing process.
I’m Bruno Ciaramicoli Cabral, originally from Brazil and from a young age I wanted to move away and explore the world. I moved to the UK aged 18 with very little money in my pocket and without speaking a word of English. My English was so bad I used to think people were speaking Japanese when they said ‘Hi’! I kept thinking ‘Why don’t people say “Hello”?, not realising that ‘Hi’ was another way of people greeting each other!
My first job was as a toilet cleaner in a club and after a few years my English got better so I was promoted to work at the bar. Eventually, I made it to management after 2 years. When I was 25, I opened my first company, Half Baked Records which was extremely successful and from there I opened another seven businesses on the site of Number 90 Bar including Studio 9294, Gbl Studios, Main Yard Studios and Starlane Pizza Bar.
I never thought of writing a book to be honest. It happened kind of accidentally after I have been writing what was coming in my mind for the last 3 years after my meditations.
A few years ago I went through a depression after a break up as well as one of my businesses getting shut down. I bumped into a friend of mine that I hadn’t seen for a long time, and she mentioned that she had been to Tibet for a sound healing course and she suggested I look into it. I didn’t know what sound healing was at the time but I knew that anything involving sounds would do me good as I had enjoyed working in clubs and live music for over 20 years. After attending several sessions, I started to see the light at the end of the dark tunnel that I had been. The more I was working with sound healing, the more I started letting go of past traumas and negative thoughts.
It took around 3 years of writing and 1 year of editing and design .
I felt compelled to share my experience with the world, so that anyone else who had experienced something similar would find comfort in some of the things that had helped me.
A lot of the content is based on my experience with overcoming my own struggles as well as inspiration from several sessions of meditation
I focussed on writing a bit every time I had the inspiration, so I didn’t follow as set plan. In fact the book kind of wrote itself. The more I wrote the more I started having ideas of how the book would be.
The main thing was getting support on the English grammar, the copyediting, and the rest I did myself.
Just keep writing until you have enough content to release a book and then once you are satisfied with the length of the content start editing .
I have a few ideas but not sure yet when I’ll start, or which content to do next. I hope to write more books that help people going through difficult times and how to get through it.
Yes, definitely. The purpose of this book is to help others and from everyone’s feedback, the book definitely fulfills this purpose .
