I interviewed Bronywn Smith about her life and career, what inspired her to write her financial freedom book, Dream A Big Life, and her writing process.

Tell me a bit about who you are.

I am an Author, Coach and Clinical Hypnotherapist.  Before starting my new career I was a Litigation Lawyer for nearly 30 years and Family Lawyer for about 20 of those years. I grew up in Sydney Australia.

When did you first WANT to write a book?

Bronwyn Smith

About 12 years ago I thought I would love to write a book.  I had no idea what to write about so it has taken this long to bring my dream to fruition.

When did you take a step to start writing?

About 2 years ago I pitched an idea for another book to my publisher which she really liked.  So I wrote that book which hasn’t been published yet. Because I decided it made more sense to write and publish Dream A Big Life about financial freedom and abundance first.

How long did it take you to complete your first book from the first idea to release?

It took about 12-13 months.

What made you want to write Dream A Big Life?

I wanted to change people’s perception about money.  So many people have negative connotations about money and yet money can be really easy.  The difficulty is knowing where to start.  So I decided to write this book which shows people how they can easily change their mindset, skillset and body memory around money which will change their financial future.  I wanted people to see that money wasn’t a big mystery that it was actually quite easy to master. And that anyone can master money with a few simple changes.

What were your biggest challenges with writing Dream A Big Life?

Getting the order of the chapters right so that the book was cohesive was probably my biggest challenge.  But I am really happy with the book and the information that it gives.

What was your research process for Dream A Big Life?

I really didn’t do much research.  Most of the content came from what I had learnt about money and abundance over the last 30 years, and how I had become financially free.  So the book is really the steps I took to become financially free.  This book is how I live every day.  I always try and buy as much as I can at a discounted price.  I try not to waste too much money – everyone wastes some money but I limit it as much as I can.  I save and invest in property and the share market.

How did you plan the structure of Dream A Big Life?

I did quite a detailed proposal for my publisher and that became the structure of my book.

I structured the book in what I thought was the most logical sequence, starting with mindset and then moving onto skillset, and then back to your mind in building a dream for your financial future and why do you want that financial future which gives one the motivation to go after their dream.

Dream A Big Life

Then onto universal assistance and then back to skillset of showing the reader the fundamentals for investing in the property or the share market.  Because like anything there are many factors to being financially free and I wanted the reader to have all the factors to build their idea of financial freedom.

Did you get support with editing, and how much editing did Dream A Big Life need?

I did have a wonderful editor and she was amazing.  There weren’t a lot of changes as such, more tweeking than anything else.

What is the first piece of writing advice you would give to anyone inspired to write a book?

Write about something you really love and that really excites you.

Can you give me a hint about any further books you’re planning to write?

I already have another book written, I actually wrote that book first.  It will be more about building your Dream Life and less about money.  Like Dream A Big Life it will be part skillset and part woo woo. I love that combination.

And, finally, are your proud of your accomplishment? Was it worth the effort?

I love my book and I am really proud of it because I know it will help a lot of people easily change their relationship with money and their idea of abundance and show them how they can be financially free.
