I interviewed Andrew Alliance about his life and career, what inspired him to start writing, and the work that went into his new book, Podcasting, What You Should Know.

Tell me a bit about who you are.

Andrew Alliance

My name is Andrew Alliance, I’m an Independent Creator with a focus on Tech and Web3 content. My creative journey started in 2009 when I launched my first podcast which has over 600+ episodes.

When did you first WANT to write a book?

I’d say the thought crossed my mind when I crossed 500 episodes of my podcast. I started wondering what I would leave behind. Books last forever and I wanted to leave a manuscript behind that would inspire many.

When did you take a step to start writing?

I started writing the book in 2022 after spending 14 weeks answering questions on clubhouse. This gave me the template guide to formulate the book.

How long did it take you to complete your first book from the first idea to release?

It took roughly a few weeks in Q4 of 2022 and I launched it on the week of my birthday in January of 2023.

What made you want to write Podcasting, What You Should Know?

I wanted to leave a guide for content creators that would inspire them to either launch or be encouraged to continue their journey. I took the time to share things in there that I believe folks keep to themselves. This was important to me to create a document that was evergreen and would be an excellent guide for a creator at any level.

What were your biggest challenges with writing Podcasting, What You Should Know?

Podcasting, What You Should Know

Imposter Syndrome hit a few times while I was writing the book. I had to remind myself that I’d been producing content for 14 years and it was time. I also had to recall those who encouraged me and that helped me move forward.

What was your research process for Podcasting, What You Should Know?

The research process was to create rooms on clubhouse and answer any questions about podcasting. Since I’ve done this for a while, most of the questions were pretty easy to answer. This went on for about 14 weeks. I would listen to the recording and take notes, and that’s how I started formulating the chapters.

How did you plan the structure of Podcasting, What You Should Know?

The structure of the book was an evergreen guide. I considered writing a quote at the beginning of every chapter but I decided to get straight to the point and share what the chapter was about. I didn’t want to waste the reader’s time.

Did you get support with editing, and how much editing did Podcasting, What You Should Know need?

Outside of a few spell-check sessions, the book didn’t need much editing, and grateful for that.

What is the first piece of writing advice you would give to anyone inspired to write a book?

Write your thoughts and write them often. Although the book was released when it was, I do believe that I should have started a few years ago. If I did start a few years ago, I wouldn’t have Clubhouse to do the research so it worked out as it was intended.

Can you give me a hint about any further books you’re planning to write?

I recently discovered all of my poems dating back to the 1990s, I’ll be working to release that in the future. Also, Podcasting What You Should Know will be in Spanish in the future as well. There are other works, one with a darker tone, which I’m considering.

And, finally, are you proud of your accomplishment? Was it worth the effort?

I am extremely proud of my book and it was worth the effort.
