I interviewed Amber Ashgar about her life and career, what inspires her to write her new book, Healing & Acceptance, and her research process.

Tell me a bit about who you are.

I am a mother of four wonderful children, a business woman, and a facial therapist.

In my early twenties I worked in the fashion and jewellery business before moving into real estate, buying and managing properties. My interest in property was ignited at the age of 15, when I visualized my dream home, before securing it aged 32.

I also have a passion for cryptocurrencies and started dealing in them when women only accounted for 1% in this particular financial sector. To date, in the UK, women still only account for 3.9% of the industry.

I am also a qualified facial therapist after having become passionate about skincare. My interest in skincare comes from my own experience when stress played a part in a number of skin issues.  Skin is the first organ to show signs of distress and ill-health. I’m a great believer in holistic therapies.

When did you first WANT to write a book?

I have always loved writing since I was a child. I used to constantly write things in books and on pieces of paper, making notes and keeping them. A friend once read one of my notes and jested that I should write a book, it would help people.

When did you take a step to start writing?

I first lived away from my family and responsibilities a few years ago, while working in London. I used the spare time I had to start compiling everything I had written since my mother had passed away.

How long did it take you to complete your first book from the first idea to release?

It has taken me eight months.

What made you want to write Healing & Acceptance?

It was losing my Mother. I struggled following her passing and writing was one of the only things that soothed me and gave me a new lease of life. Writing helped me to heal and accept my loss, remind me that I needed to start living again.

What were your biggest challenges with writing Healing & Acceptance?

Healing & Acceptance

I’m fortunate to say that I didn’t really face any major challenges and that everything went relatively smoothly. As it was a therapeutic process, the words just seemed to flow

What was your research process for Healing & Acceptance?

The only research required of me was the quotes I had used. The rest just flowed naturally from my own experience and from those that I observed around me.

How did you plan the structure of Healing & Acceptance?

The plan developed organically whilst I was writing.

Did you get support with editing, and how much editing did Healing & Acceptance need?

I did work with an editor but unfortunately it was not very helpful. Alongside a proofreader and the help of a friend, I have completed most of the book myself.

What is the first piece of writing advice you would give to anyone inspired to write a book?

Be patient with yourself. Sometimes what you write may not make sense at the time but in retrospect it will become clear, particularly when the words come from your heart. Take your time and do your research thoroughly.

Can you give me a hint about any further books you’re planning to write?

I have two books in the pipeline – one about health/wellness and skincare and the other about cryptocurrencies. Two quite different subjects!

My passion for skincare comes from my own personal journey where stress and a hectic lifestyle played a part in a number of skin issues. Skin is the first organ to show signs of distress and unhappiness.

The book on cryptocurrency on the other hand reflects a totally different interest of mine. Having achieved some encouraging results with crypto investment, I would now like to share my tips with a wider audience.

And, finally, are you proud of your accomplishment? Was it worth the effort?

Oh yes! A friend who read the book said it helped her overcome certain negative feelings that had been eating her away. She also keeps it on her bedside cabinet to read the affirmations every morning. That really made me feel proud knowing I played a part in helping someone feel better about themselves.
