Strange Times

DUB ZOO are back with their upcoming album Strange Times, a ten-track offering that sublimely captures the energy of their live shows in a realm of progressive dub and deep psychedelic grooves. They decided to start recording at DUB ZOO HQ during the Covid lockdowns in 2020, and spent their newfound free time there. The recording kept going along with the lockdowns, and before they knew it, they had a lot of new material.

Brad Wenham and Paddy Kiernan, members of the band, recorded and produced Strange Times. Paulie B, producer for Ziggy Alberts and Kingfisha, later mixed the album. The album was finally mastered by Mike Caplan at Lion and Fox Studio in Washington, US, in a truly collaborative process.

Inspired To Write Strange Times

In Strange Times, listeners can anticipate an overabundance of authenticity due to their chronicles’ incorporation of personal experiences. They encourage listeners to live in the moment, embrace free-thinking, and make use of their new circumstances to fuel a truly addictive new album with heavy dub and reggae influences.

“As far as what we were watching, it kinda felt like we were watching the world fall apart, albeit from our relatively civilized piece of paradise. But even in Australia we were not immune to the weirdness of these last few years,” explained the band.

There is a balance, despite the fact that songs like “Confusion,” “World on Fire,” and “Strange Times” lean into darker emotions. The grooves and progressive rhythmic energy that DUB ZOO are known for are brought to life in songs like “Into The Sun” and “Feel Me.” Their unique blend of poetry and philosophy is brought to life in a way that will make any dance floor shine. This extraordinary album truly captures their imaginative vibes.

DUB ZOO

DUB ZOO is a one-of-a-kind, genre-defying musical group that is performed by a group of musicians who all have a love for improvisation. DUB ZOO, based in Australia’s Sunshine Coast, started out as an experiment to see if live improvisation could be an immersive and transformative experience for both the player and the listener.

DUB ZOO have been putting their core beliefs into a musical project that energises and inspires since 2016. They fill dancefloors and festival stages with high energy and dynamic alike, featuring a collective of vocalists such as Lizzie O’Keefe (Dangerous Song), Ben Goldstein (Hot Potato Band), and Graham Moes (Fat Picnic), the multi-instrumental mayhem of Lee Hardisty (keys, sax, flute, and kalimba), Paddy Kiernan (guitar), Brad Wenham (bass), and Leon Tussie (drums).

Full-time musicians and music teachers make up DUB ZOO. Their success spans a wide range in addition to their love of nature, gardening, and the natural world and their diverse musical influences. They talk about how happy they are to share their music with the world. They may not be able to control what happens next, but the interest they continue to pique has been significant. DUB ZOO are still paving the way for a new era of experimentalism.
