On The Table Read Magazine, “the best entertainment magazine in the UK“, King, the raucous new single from British alt rock band Verra Cruz, is an antidote to the constant barrage of messages that tell their listeners, “you are not enough.”
Verra Cruz
British alt rock infused musical project, Verra Cruz, is made of up Marc James (guitar/lap steel/vocals), Henry Cross (bass) & Jimmy Cooke (drums). After stumbling upon their signature lap steel guitar in a small boutique guitar shop in Memphis, Tennessee, the three-piece band have been creating mighty, raucous anthems, laced with spiritual and personal themes.
Their dark chord voicing and anthemic energy is inspired by rock and roll greats such as Jimi Hendrix, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, and Rage Against The Machine, creating emotional, energetic and purely authentic music. Unafraid to sing out about injustice they see around them, Verra Cruz quest for love, beauty and music to make sense of the world.
After supporting the likes of Biffy Clyro, X is Loaded, and Switchfoot across the world stage, Verra Cruz have played at renowned venues such as the Shepherds Bush Empire, and a whole host of European festivals since the 90’s, including Download Festival! Featuring as “incoming band” in Kerrang! magazine in 2008, their first first single “Soul Collides” was played on BBC Radio 1, and KROQ’s Jed The Fish, featured it as his catch of the day.
King
The latest single from Verra Cruz, King, was written 12 years ago when singer Marc James was working building stages for festivals and events, about the peaks and troughs we face in our lives as he dreamt about one day being the person to perform on those stages. It was grueling and poorly paid work, and as he slid into debt it felt like his dreams were slipping away. Things were tough for Marc James and his family and he wrote King to lift hhim up above the circumstances and fight constant barrage of “you are not enough,” that we are slammed with every day
With crashing percussion, grungy guitars and fiery vocals, the rowdy, energetic track bursts with feel-good and empowering atmosphere. Verra Cruz want listeners to remember their worth, knowing that it’s easy to forget that our value isn’t in what we have achieved or our material possessions, but in who we are, no matter our circumstances. We are kings.
