2020, The Year That Tried to Kill Me – A True Story: The Incredible Account of One Man’s Struggle to Stay Alive in the Year No One Will Ever Forget.
As the author of ‘2020, The Year That Tried to Kill Me: A True Story’ Oliver Morrison is quick to point out, this isn’t a sob tale. Though the subject matter relates the horrific story of his personal struggles with ill health it is really about how Oliver stayed positive and retained his sense of humour throughout a year in which he fought for his life with a mysterious flu like illness which caused a collapsed lung, pneumonia and a fractured rib. Then came another huge health scare – a brain haemorrhage caused by aneurysms which resulted in a blood clot on the brain and a stroke during the operation that saved his life.
The story is intended to give the readers hope, especially in the wake of Covid-19 and Long Covid and inspire them not to give up in the face of adversity, no matter how harsh it may seem.
In 2020 Oliver Morrison survived the worst year of his life, suffering a broken rib, collapsed lung and pneumonia, all of which was followed by another health whammy – a brain haemorrhage caused by a double aneurysm. This resulted in a blood clot on the brain and a stroke during the operation that saved his life still affects him to this day.
Despite these devastating events he somehow managed to retain his sense of humour and developed an amazing positivity which aided his recovery and saw him write ‘2020, The Year That Tried to Kill Me: A True Story’ – his new book about his experiences completed just three months after he survived the whole sorry business. Oliver says that in the future he intends to carry on with the creative side of life, writing and working in the music industry.
His experiences last year have led him to become acutely aware that others who have suffered from similar traumas in their lives may not have dealt with them quite as successfully and he is therefore keen to help them heal in whatever way he can. His very absorbing and thought-provoking, and at times humorous book is one hell of a start to the process.
The story narrates a critical year in the life of a 40-year-old man living in a remote farmer’s town on the border of Wales. Having lived in numerous countries and cities due to his father’s profession, he found solace only in one town which he called home.
This heart-wrenching tale encompasses his passionate struggle during the Global Pandemic as he fought for his life with a mysterious flu like illness which caused a collapsed lung, pneumonia and a fractured rib. The real deal was a brain haemorrhage caused by aneurysms which came circumstantially.
Nevertheless, the resilience that he had instilled in his soul brought him back to life. During this excruciating journey, he was pleased by the impactful role that the paramedics, doctors, and nurses had on him that motivated him to keep fighting for his life.
Furthermore, the role of Walton Centre Hospital of Liverpool is worth praising during the havoc and upheaval caused by the freak events. The story is far from a pity party as the dark humour from the author’s cynical outlook on life is sure to keep you entertained throughout.
Oliver Morrison was born in Venezuela, but moved to Houston, Texas as a child, where his father worked in the oil industry. Following that the family moved to the UK, to the small town of Oswestry in Shropshire. He still lives there today, with his father and step-mother and his Staffordshire Bull terrier, Kasey.
In his day job, Oliver works as a Parts Advisor for a ground care company, specialising in quad bikes and utility equipment, as well as mowing equipment for both the professional and domestic markets. But in 2020 he survived the worst year of his life, as accounted in ‘2020, The Year That Tried to Kill Me: A True Story.’
In his free time, Oliver enjoys walking his dog, night clubbing, Dj’ing as Oliver Twisted, playing golf and watching films. He is also interested in the self-publishing industry and invests in crypto currencies, which he hopes will become an eventual source of wealth.
In the future Oliver wants to carry on with the creative side of life, writing and working in the music industry.
