The Yellow Bus

The Yellow Bus by Alan McThredder

The Yellow Bus by Alan McThredder transports readers back to the vibrant hippie heyday, offering a firsthand account of two brothers’ audacious quest to escape the monotony of 1970s Thornton Heath. With a mix of humor, adventure, and cultural insights, McThredder’s memoir captures the spirit of the era.

Follow the brothers as they navigate their way across Europe and through the politically charged regions of Iran and Afghanistan. Their determination to explore the world is both inspiring and impressive, even if they ultimately fell short of their intended destination.

McThredder’s honest and engaging storytelling brings the sights, situations, and colourful characters to life. While the book contains references to drug use, it’s important to note that they are presented factually and never glorified.

The Yellow Bus evokes a sense of nostalgia for a simpler time, offering a refreshing and entertaining escape. It’s sure to inspire even the most armchair travelers to embark on their own adventures and explore the world beyond their comfort zones.

I live near Brighton and have been married for forty years and have two daughters. Now seventy-four years old and retired, I write poetry and stories purely for a hobby but have never published anything but ‘The Yellow Bus’.

Although I failed my Eleven Plus and was sent to a violent inner-city school in Balham, I managed to keep my standards constantly low by getting expelled at the age of fifteen. Nevertheless, many years later after meeting my wife I managed to get a teaching degree was a teacher for ten years before moving into IT and becoming a Microsoft certified systems engineer.
