The Ghost Of Highgate

For those intrigued by the activities and reputation of one of Russia’s most famous bad boys, Karl Marx, Bob Mazzei’s The Ghost of Highgate is a rollercoaster, laugh out loud read which delivers a narrative that wows and edifies in equal measure. This satirical, well-constructed, and intellectual novel highlights that author and self-confessed ‘thinker’ Bob Mazzei knows his stuff.

When London IT Engineer Nob takes a Sunday stroll through Highgate Cemetery, he gets more than just fresh air and exercise. A chance encounter with the talkative spirit of long-dead philosopher Karl Marx sets Nob off on a rollicking paranormal adventure. The supernatural philosopher has been sent back to Earth as his life’s work was gravely misunderstood, and he intends to show that he was creating a path for the liberation of everybody, and not the hell that communist dictatorships turned out to be.

Though initially skeptical of his cemetery pal’s true identity, Nob warms to the academic challenge of helping translate complex ideas into everyday language. Thus begins a comically bizarre partnership as Marx, nicknamed “Chucky” by the bewildered Nob, and his contemporary companion set off on a rollercoaster of uproarious escapades, from navigating the complexities of modern society to meeting the most typical characters of our time.

As the tale unfolds, Chucky takes it upon himself to clarify his vision of the world, using sharp wit, satire, humour, and self-criticism to dissect our contemporary anxieties. In a crescendo of hilarity, the novel delves into pressing social themes of our time, all while inviting readers to join in the laughter. Together, the pair just might make progress on their unorthodox quest – and remind society that wisdom often comes from the most peculiar places.

Bringing Marx to the consciousness of many who haven’t given the man considered the intellectual and philosophical leader of the Russian Revolution much of a second thought, The Ghost of Highgate will find favour with history nuts, fans of the paranormal, and those who like nothing more than a good spoof.

Bob Mazzei

Allow me to introduce myself—the name’s Bob Mazzei, and I’m quite the brat as you’ll soon see. Now let’s cover the basics, shall we?

I’m roughly 60 years young, though my youthful vigour certainly belies my age! Studied economics and political philosophy back in university—fancy stuff indeed! But also, boring stuff like electrical engineering, computer science, data analysis. Real snooze-fests, I tell ya. But with those skills you can land a job, earn your keep, and put food on the table. In short, you survive.

These days I work as a business engineer and analyst, crunching numbers and optimising operations with my trusty apps. Exciting? Not quite, but it pays the bills I suppose.

Outside the office, I indulge my true passions in life. Books, music, cinema—I gobble up culture voraciously like fish and chips at the pub! Speaking of, you’ll often find me down at the local watering hole chatting football with my mates. Love athletics as well—try to stay sharp by jogging laps around the park now and then. Really gets the endorphins flowing! So, there you have it, the delightful paradox that is me! Thinker of stuff, cinephile, football fan, business analyst and rock and roll lover.
